2013 BladeForums Traditional Forum Knife Pre-Order thread

Here's the thing. As of now and with the pace of preorders, I'm either going to have to greatly reduce the number of knives or cancel this. I wish I didn't have to do so, but the preorders just haven't been there. Between increases in server costs, costs of my business moving and everything else, I may have to start issuing refunds, because I can't float a huge project like this with a ton of fence sitters.

Thanks for getting back to us Spark. I don't want to put your business under pressure, you have to look out for yourself first and foremost.

With regards to the above, could you be a bit more specific? How many are we short and what sort of numbers would we need to reduce it to to make it happen? What I mean is, suppose no one else wants to pre-order; what can we do to make it happen and should we put an ultimatum on the timeframe as my esteemed fellow forumite has suggested?

Much obliged,
Paul

Do we have a rendering or anything? This has been sitting DOA for a little while, I think a lot of the fence sitters were losing hope that it would happen at all. Another push with updated numbers and a committment that it will happen (at reduced numbers), would help.

That sure was (hopefully is) going to be a pretty knife. I wonder if our "wish list" of features put it just a tad out of the sweet spot, price-wise, for a forum knife. How much did last year's knife end up costing?

Understood, my suggestion (well worth what was paid for it) would be cut back the order to equal the number of preorders and give all the fence sitters a week to put in the last minute orders and be done with it. Thanks for all your efforts Kevin! Steven

This.

Yeah, that's probably what's going to happen. Cut it down to 140 or so pieces and call it a wrap.

That would be great, might well concentrate the minds of fence sitters&voyeurs! But what is the current total?

Thanks, Will

Having gone through the process once healthy and once spending 1/2 a year on crutches with a year of recovery challenges, all I know is that taking on this the annual knife task is a big commitment. Sometimes the unforeseen pops up that can cause delays. let's not lose track that this is a "club" knife rather than a retail purchase. I also know that no matter what the outcome, Kevin will take care of things the right way.

Oh yeah, I get that and the effort is much appreciated. I paid for one, and now I just try to put it out of my mind, and whenever it gets here, it'll be like a gift from my former self:)

I would be disappointed if the project got cancelled though, because this is my first forum knife, and it happens to be my fantasy knife so I really want one!

I think I'm going to start a little "2013 Forum Knife Motivation Thread," to try and spike to numbers a bit... More to come. ;)

Thanks for the updates everyone! Looks like we might be getting a knife that is even more limited edition this year:)
Once again, a big thanks to all those involved in this entire process!

So what's the deadline? As previously stated, I intend to order one. Just got to get the funds together, which as too often seems to be a challenge. ;)

As of now, there doesn't appear to be a deadline.

I for one would really like to see this happen (1st forum knife and the congress is my favorite pattern). I say shrink the order and call it a day. Thanks for all the effort Spark, we really appreciate it.

Thanks for the effort Spark and everyone else involved.

It seems as though the fence sitters are just going to keep sitting. Maybe when they see how well this knife turns out they'll clamber to grab one on the exchange.

DO IT SPARK!

^ This.

The grass may be greener on the other side of the fence, but if you continue to stay on the fence, you'll go hungry.

I'd like to see this move forward with those who've made an actual commitment being first priority.

Thanks for all your work on this Keven/all.

Spark,
I guess I am a fence sitter since I definitely wont buy this years knife unseen, I don't really care for that Sheepsfoot main blade.

But I hope you can get this done for the people who have paid. A bunch of people have wanted a knife with a Wharncliffe type main blade for years now. Even if you have to make it a "closed run" just for those willing to pay up front, it would be a great thing for them.

That's how it used to be done, and no one should have a problem with that.
