2013 Case/Bose Collaboration

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the 2012 Traditional's Forum Knife based loosely on that pattern?

It has a Clip and a Wharncliffe, and it is a "Trapper" pattern.
Other than that it really doesn't share much at all with the Bose IMHO, so I would say VERY loosely based on it.
The T. Bose is 3.5 inches of sublime understatement. The 2013 Forum knife is almost 4" of stoutness (not that there is anything wrong with that, just very different).

I started making this pattern in the middle 1980s. I've also carried one that long. I think it's the handyest everyday knife for everyday use that's out there. That's not because I did it, it's cause I really think that or I wouldn't be carrying one. It's been copyied a lot so that says something. The handle pattern is a curved jack which I do use a lot cause I like it , it's very comfortable in the hand. I tried to talk Case into this knife for the first collab but they didn't but they are now. Get one folks and drop it in your pocket.

Fantastic! I'll take one in bone and one in stag. Now I just gotta save enough out of my tax refund...

Case took a long time to come around! But at least they finally did it.
On and off, I have carried one of Tony's, and everything he said is true. It's a fine useful pocketknife, and I will get one or two - just becuzz!!

I couldn't agree more. This is by far my favorite pattern. That's my plan! Thanks for convincing them to go with this one, Tony!:thumbup:

He didn't have to do much arm twisting I am sure! If they made this pattern, first year out of the gate, they would have shot themselves in the foot for future patterns.

I sure hope my go to spot gets a few of these. I might take a while to choose between ebony or antique bone!

I would imagine a slightly smaller length than a 3 7/8" pattern, and a wharncliffe rather than a long spey blade, should make this a popular knife. Plenty of wharncliffe seekers around this joint.

I think Tony should tell Case to make double (or more) the typical amount of this year's collaboration, because these are going to sell like crazy, if for the premium steel alone. Right now, when it comes to a 3.5" WT, we only have a few choices. Cases Tru-Sharp (adequate, but barely so), Case's damascus (kinda pricey, soft, and not stainless - and you never know how the stag will turn out), or going full custom and spending several hundred dollars or more.

If Case offered their regular mini WT in a "premium" steel for $150, I'd happily buy one. But a Tony Bose collaboration, with all the extras like stainless hardware, pinned shield, topped off with the great fit and finish we've come to love from the Case/Bose knives (all of them, not just the premium annual collaborations)? It's hard for me to imagine a better traditional EDC without spending many hundreds on a custom.

How many in here are buying AND CARRYING the annual knives? Factor in other large knife oriented forums, members here are members at other forums etc. Let's take a look at those that just buy one or two and set them aside, hoping to charge more down the road on any annual patterns. Lots of shops I've talked to either were told flat out they weren't getting any annual collaborations, or they just didn't want to mess with ordering them, keeping a list of customers that wanted one etc was too much hassle. How many shops get a few extra for themselves? How many make it into the general public's hands?

Maybe 1000 is a good number, just a pain in the butt for us to get ahold of. I do know that a lot of collectors will gnash their teeth and pull their hair out if 1001 blades are issued, but I am just looking for a user like Aaron. 300 chestnut, 300 antique, 200 ebony, 100 stag and 100 MOP. That's a huge run for a Great Eastern product ;).

My "hookup" barely got any of the Lanny's Clips last year. If they don't get any, or if I'm not first in line like I was last year, I'll hopefully find one on the Exchange.

The Lanny's clip from last year started getting delivered in September. So...you've got a few months to save up.

I always liked this pattern. It's the only pattern with two blades of equal length that I would buy and carry.
Unfortunately, I assume it will be very hard for me to get one; being on the "wrong" side of the Atlantic doesn't help.
Yet, I might as well give it a try :)

I have no idea what it would take, but to me this particular collaboration has "Swayback Jack" written all over it.

Meaning, even if it takes years, I'd love for this to become part of Case's regular production someday.

Not that I'd risk waiting for that, if in a position to get this one!
