I would love to see us build a smaller single blade folding hunter, similar to the Statue of Liberty commerative Schrade did for the Statue of Liberty centennial.

How about somethin' like that with a turkish clip, remeber we're lookin' for traditional but different than the traditional traditionals, ya know what mean?

Like a Toothpick with a spear blade and ss handles or a reverse Gunstock with a Hawkbill/Pruner, howabout a knice Mushroom Pickers knife...

The biggest point is to do a traditional pattern that has a blade combo uncommon to that frame/pattern/...

I got it, an elephants Toenail/Sunfish with a Turkish Clip on one end and a Coping blade or Kriss on the other end both blade made from 2 layer mystery damascus scale of questionable material and professionall dull and all for under a $100

On a serious note: this is the fun, cooler heads will prevail, Commiment and pride take over.

If you' lookin' for a planejane camper from Wally World and in the process couldn't care less how many hand opperations went into your knife, all the WIP pics with the runnin' commentary to where they are in the process,(could it be ? we might actually enjoy it) ;)

Well Ambien's kickkin' in, the keyboard keeps addin' and movin' letter and the screen on the computer is all wavy...

I think I'll go drive over to the truckstop on an old roadgrade to get me some ambien muchies, like cheez doodles man,did ya know cheese doodles and potatochips burn, it don;t pay to throw a marshmallow at an elephant... he aint gonna feelit anyway.

In my medicinally altered state of my I just wanna say, Either a Gunstock in some kinda horn or dyed smootbone or a 2 Blade Congress with blades at the opposite end of the frame on a single back spring, Could probabbly get a knice 2 blade sowbelly in that ranges.

Lottsa luck folks I hope we pull another rabbit outta the hat for 2013....zzzzzzzZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZ....

I am pretty new to the traditionals but really like my 2012 knife. How long has it been since a Barlow was made? I would like to see a Barlow or a whittler pattern like the courthouse whittler.
Looking forward to what they come up with for this year.

Not sure if it was answered yet, but I believe 2009 was the last Barlow and was made by Queen.

*shameless plug alert- still looking for one. :D

I agree with Ted.

:D

Ted, we gotta get together!

Whatever we come up with, let's remember, we are a folksy bunch. This is the lazy front porch of Bladeforums. Let's try to have a good time and come up with a great pattern for 2013. The Mods have said we probably aren't getting anywhere without Spark on board, we have to wait and find out what he does.

I sort of resemble that remark, and take no offence (offense in the US). I purposely stay out of the decision making, and try to temper my comments. That said, while "wise" might be an exaggeration, I think my experience adds to the knowledge around here.

I can attest to Charlie's ethical uprightness (at least as it pertains to knife selection) and his aversion to using "esses" and "zees" in his spelling. I think he got more involved than he hoped to last year (much thanks to him, Frank, Gary, Campbell from me and Ash), but he never tried to influence actions, choices, or designs. He merely shared his experience in how to get things done in the SFO world, and used his connections to get things done quicker. The committee had pretty much decided to go with GEC before Charlie got actively involved. GEC actually replied to our correspondence, showed their enthusiasm to work with us, and provided us with fair costs and good service. Queen did not return phone calls or e-mails. Canal Street, through their extremely high proposed pricing and the tone of their correspondence, showed that they were not interested.

All the people who became part of the committee last year will agree with me that the 2012 forum knife would not have happened (or would have been a 2013 knife) if it wasn't for Charlie, and that Charlie was completely objective in the process.

I just watched the new Wes Anderson movie, "Moonrise Kingdom" (great movie!), and it renewed my interests in the traditional multi blade/tool scout knives. In the movie Ed Norton plays a Scout master and displays his scout knife more than once throughout the movie. I think it is just a SAK climber with custom stag covers and a raccoon face for the shield, but it definitely peeked my interest in the scout knives again.

I think a multi bladed scout knife with a big ol' bail for a leather lanyard or keychain would be very nice as a forum knife. Here are a few stills of the knife from the movie that I found on google images... I would love to see GEC do something like this with a similar shield!

I realize that a multi bladed knife like this (especially if it were in stag) would probably be way above the allotted price range, but it's nice to dream!

Open the knife and look on the inside of the liner. You'll see the pin.

Really? mine has glue around the edge...I see no visible signs of pins on my 2010, my 2011 however is pinned and no signs of glue.

I don't think what you're seeing is glue. The inletting of the shields was not precise on some knives and a filler was used to fill in minor gaps between the cover and the shield.

I have really liking that gunstock pattern. I think a coke bottle pattern would be unique too

How about a gunstock with a single back spring and the blades at opposite ends kinda like the bartenders knife which always reminded me of a giant gunstock.

Now how about a nice Gunstock with a california clip and a small sheepsfoot?

I like 2 blade knives, that gunstock with a sheepsfoot secondary sounds very nice.
keeping things under or at least close to the $100 mark would be nice.

So, we buy stock Gunstock knives from whatever source, have them all shipped to Sturzi first, and voilà!

Sturzi, you're surely up for modifying 200+ secondary blades, yes? Community Spirit, and all.

;)

(Yes, I know that's more a Coping blade, but I'm doing my part to help keep costs down.)

From seeing multiple "work in process" pics from their website, I *think* they typically use a dab of epoxy or filler/gap concealer in addition to pinning the shields during assembly. Most times, I'd imagine, what little glue that's left after final buffing/polishing is hard to see. Sometimes you'll see evidence of it, as shown below.

Sorry I missed your post, Manfred!
I wouldn't ordinarily bring attention to it, but absolutely must thank you publicly for your acknowledgement and vote of confidence.

Yes, I've noticed that GEC seems to have a slight problem with inletting and fitting the acorn shields on their stainless knives.

Anyway, back to the 2013 forum knife.

The Queen made 2010 Forum knife is defo pinned, look inside the liner. They used this exact frame for the Heritage Woodsman knife in Ebony or Bone (3 blades) that's pinned too. As are QCCC knives, the ordinary D2 knives have a glued coin shield.

As for this year's knife, how about a single-blade Copperhead? Not a common knife, not big not small, covered tang (pocket friendly!) doesn't HAVE to have brown coloured handles...hint. Caramel, Red, Ivory micarta

Will,
I do like your suggestion. Aside from my wish to get a Congress Jack, I'd also enjoy a single bladed knife of some sort. It would also give us the chance to get better materials (both for steel and handle) keeping the price in the range.
But then...
The sodbuster would be a great pattern. But practically every knifemaking company produces one (Case, GEC, AG Russell, Boker...) so it wouldn't have much uniqueness.
Lanny's clip would be good: aside from the recent Case/Bose, there's none in production.
A Barlow would be repeated.
A single bladed trapper would be nice...but we had a trapper in 2012.
Instead, the single bladed copperhead would be a good choice (aside from Case, there's none in production, not that I know at least).
Otherwise, we could go for an English style single bladed sheepsfoot jack :)
