2013 Forum knife?

Here is a nice 4" pattern. Like a congress it has opposing blades on a single spring. Schrade Cut Co called this a Texas Jack. They also did a version with this same clip blade, and a pen blade, pivoting on one end, like a conventional Jack and called it a Texas Jack.

I asked GEC about this one, and they are enthusiastic about doing a large serpentine pattern, and would certainly cooperate, as in the past two years, with making it first as our forum knife!
I thought that was kinda cool!!

OOOOOOOOOOOHHH. Hubba Hubba! I LIKE that one.

And on a moderational note. Gary and I have sent a query to Spark, asking if he will take on another forum knife project.

That 4" Schrade model of waynorth's would certainly do the trick for me. As long as the wharncliff fans don't come along and try to ruin it. The wharncliff blade is all that kept me away from last year's offering. That, as shown, or maybe with equal or almost equal length clip and spey blades like an opposite end trapper. In O1 or D2, possibly 440C. 3 1/2" or 3 5/8" to make it ride a little easier in a front pocket would work, but I'd be in for the 4". I already have a couple Country Cousins and a black F&F sodbuster but a custom single blade along those lines, maybe a little thinner would interest me also.

That 4" Schrade looks sweet! I could go for a sheepsfoot in place of the spey blade. Noice

looks perfect just how it is. love the spey blade and that clip is beautiful.

I'd prefer it with a sheepsfoot as well. I don't have much use for a spey.

Neither do I, I hardly find uses for spey blades. The thing is though, aesthetically, a spey looks perfect on that knife.

How 'bout replacing it with a pen blade?
That way it isn't a sheepsfoot and it isn't a spey.

A well designed pen blade, with the point below the centerline, is a thing of beauty. And very traditional, even if you don't see many these days.

^I could live with that, I have always been intrigued by those pen blades. Doesn't the Case Texas Jack have a pen blade with the point below the centerline?

Please , let it be 3 5/8" (whatever model) , bigger than that does not suit my every day clothing. Just a thought.
Mike

Charlie YOU DA Man!! :D!!!
When do I pay!!! ;)

I wish! I was blathering like an idiot, and could not get my wallet out fast enough when I saw that Schrade! But I suspect we have a long way to go before we make a final decision.
I hope Spark lets us decide on the knife, then makes it happen like last time. He's a businessman, and a knife that sells out that fast should turn his crank!!

P.S. Mike, while that serpentine pattern is longer than 3 5/8", it is slim, and rides a pocket nicely.

P.P.S.to those who would like something other than a spey secondary, I think it would be tough to fit a sheepfoot in there, and make it look and feel right closed, but maybe there is something else. . . .
maybe a Zulu spear (a spear blade with a lowered point)??? I think Schrade invented the Zulu, so that would be in keeping with tradition.

The Texas Jack is a real looker. I like the idea of changing the spey out, with a sheepsfoot, or a long pen blade. Wait, I see Charlie is mentioning a Zulu blade with a lower point... hmmm.

I think that is getting too close to the 2010 Moose overall. I'd rather go with the spey blade shown, or better yet a pen blade.

Thank you Frank, I hope Spark is willing to do so. I have both BF knives from 2012, and even though the Traditional knife seemed contentious at times it was nothing like the other one.

The more I look at the Schrade the more I want one! Great idea Charlie!

Cheers,
Griff

I put a pen blade at the bottom of my list, especially when paired with a clip blade as they are both too similar. The clip with its mostly straight edge goes better with a Spey IMO, as it increases the versatility of the knife due to different shaped blades. In the congress jack the pen blade gives the belly to offset the straight main blade, I don't personally see how the pen with a clip makes the knife more versatile. Plus this is (to me anyways) supposed to be a unique/special knife, and I already have a multitude of clip/pen combos in my slipjoints. I have yet to add the blade patterns from the congress jack or original Texas Jack blade configuration.

Just my take on the suggestion- I am liking the knives suggested this year.

And I still feel that the options listed would look good in wood (the image of a Koa handled cokebottle popped into my head last night and looked good in here). Great discussion so far.

Need to note that Spark is indeed a businessman. Whatever we decide on (should this project move forward) we need to insure that the price allows him a fair return on his investment and time. This is >$20k we're talking about having laid out to get started, and it's one of the reasons we almost didn't have a knife last year.

I like that Jack; mainly because of the slim profile of the clip. But I've been carrying my CJ for about a month now and it's really nice in the pocket. I think the biggest problem with many multi-blade knives is that the blades are too thick. I have a 4 blade equal end from NY that's thinner than a modern two blade Buck. (It's one of the most perfect pocket knives I've ever seen; even with worn/broken blades.)

A Congress Jack, with thin blades, less than 4", white micarta scales, maybe pinched bolsters, in stainless? Grandpa would call that a "Sunday go to meetin' knife".
