2013 Spring Gathering May 3,4,5

Spoke to Murph briefly about 2 hrs ago. dont know exactly where in the 6hr. trip he is, but he is on his way. my plan is to head out about 4 a.m. friday morning, unfortunately as my luck would have it, I am currently experiencing vehicle difficulties, but Im hoping to have them resolved tonight.
 
Man I'm bummed. I was almost able to come this time. I have a charity event on Saturday that I can't miss. Can I put in a plug for not having any potential fall meetings during the week of October 11th-15th? I have a meeting that I HAVE to attend and I REALLY want to get to any potential fall gatherings at Che Becker. :)
 
I'm undecided on whether or not to head that way Thursday night or Friday morning but either way I'll be there by Friday. It will probably just be me as my significant other is afraid it will rain all weekend. Save some beers for me!

a little late here, but you know what would have REALLY been cool??

if every maker would have also submitted an unfinished blank, by unfinished I mean just no handles everything else spot on...

then you guys could have done a destruction test pairing up one custom to the other until the death.. kinda like what TAG did with BK and ESEE... :) ahh, maybe next time

ETA: then again I never even had time to test the blade I submitted so only time will tell how well that fares, normally I'll chew up some 2x and see how many licks it takes before it won't cut paper.. oh well....it is what it is..

That would be cool, however I could imagine it would be kind of hard for some of the smaller makers to afford it.
 
Well, almost there. Left Toronto this morning and made it into Lexington at 10 p.m. Staying with some friends tonight and should be at Ethan's late Thursday or early Friday. Looking forward to seeing you guys again!
 
Just realized Ethan has wifi, awesome! Did some prep work yesterday. Had a fine evening with Mr. Becker and of course an amazing feast. Windy night up on the hill. Woke up, made it down to report for dutyonly to find PsyOp and Vik already here and slugging down all the coffee.

That's a cool idea. I don't have any "everything else spot on" blanks ready for that kind of testing, but if anyone's interested I could bring a ground and HT'ed blade or two for folks to examine, sharpen, and beat the snot out of, up to and including destruction. I could knock a basic edge on 'em... you don't want to be setting bevels on these things with an Arkansas stone ;)... or if there's a belt-grinder available, I could leave 'em raw and let y'all do it however you want.

Might give non-knifemakers a bit of insight and fun. Whaddaya think guys, does that interest you?

In other news, Ang has decided to drop me off Saturday morning and go hang with friends in Chatanooga all day so I can have some "guy time". Please be gentle with me, it's my first time :D

Got a late start, had no chance to prepack, and didn't figure forgeting the beer would go over well...

OK, you rascals, this is gettin' a bit spooky. May I remind you, I've been to prison and got out with my virginity intact. Don't tell me I gotta walk up to the first big guy I see and punch him in the mouth just to show my courage (again)! :D
