2014 BladeForums Knife Gallery

GREAT looking knives Meako and Duncan! You 2 Linus!!
I received mine last week just as I got relieved at work. Had a friend from home come visit for some pheasant hunting. Got 3 days of bird hunting in and work called! :grumpy:
So i just snapped some quick shots of 2 of the 4 knives I ordered. Will post the other 2 whenever I can. :D

They've stopped selling it over here for some reason :( (that's disappointment rather than constipation! ;) )

I believe the term mineral oil is not used so much outside of the US, just ask for liquid paraffin (same stuff) in any drugstore and you should be good to go.

My two forum knives finally arrived as well, I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow :).

My first Laguiole - Gentleman Knife by Fontenille Pataud and my second review in English :)

Congratulations on the knives arriving :)

Thanks. Yes, it was always on the pharmacy shelf here, but disappeared a few years ago. I've asked several chemists and they all say they can no longer get hold of it. I find it very strange.

Vancouver is only 49.2500 N.
You might hold the record, Will!

My wait for the Bladeforums Stag Jack has been a stressful one, since for reasons I won’t go into, I had serious concerns about actually receiving it. If I received it at all, I anticipated a headache, and I was not wrong. First I had to cross town to pick up a card telling me that my package was being held at a sorting office, and that I would have to pay $30 to get it, most of that amount being a ‘handling fee’ rather than tax. Since the card had been wrongly addressed I was surprised it made it to my mail box at all, but then I realised I would need photo ID to pick it up. Having no Driving License, I went back home to get my passport, and since it has just expired, I searched for my Press Pass. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the Press Pass, but took the passport and a load of other ID. The depot is in the middle of nowhere on the edge of Leeds, but two more bus rides and a walk later, I made it. I proffered cash and my ID, only to be told by some spotty young man, that my passport wasn’t valid, and that my other ID was not acceptable because it didn’t have my photograph. Managing to keep my temper, I trekked back to the bus-stop, and returned home. I turned the place upside down looking for my Press Pass, but still couldn’t find it. I accumulated more and more ID though, picking up everything I could find. I even took a couple of magazines with photos of me in with me when I returned. I trudged back to the depot only to find that the spotty youth had been replaced by a man in his forties. He went to get the parcel, sympathised with me about having to pay the charge, and took the money. He didn’t even ask for any ID! Arrghhh! What a day, but I got my knife at least, it didn’t get returned to the US or go ‘missing’ altogether, and hopefully it hadn’t been sitting around too long at the depot.

I must apologise for these pics, they’re just taken on my kitchen table this evening, but I just wanted to add to this thread. I dare say you’ll be seeing more of this one ;)

As you can see, the stag is nicely matched, and pretty even I think. There’s a bit of sharp ridge in the stag where the shield was let in, which I might smooth down a little. Not that I’ll be rushing to do that.

The blade is perfectly centred and sits well in the open position, with a nice straight line along the back of the knife. There’s not even the merest smidgen of light coming through the back. The pull is great for me, even with the long pull sat fairly well back. It opens nice and crisply.

I love both the size and profile of the blade, that’s a great swedge in my opinion. I’m not too bothered about the knife’s sharpness, but was interested to see what it would be like. It’s actually pretty blunt, particularly towards the point, which seems to have been missed altogether. I’m sure it won’t take long to get it sharp though.

It’s a shame about all the hassle involved to get hold of it, but it’s a very nice knife, well-designed and built, and at a great price of course. Thanks to everyone who contributed to a very successful project, and a true reflection of the goodness of this forum. Thanks for getting it to me Barry, you did an amazing job of getting them all off in the post. I hope that anyone who hasn’t received their knife yet gets it soon

Jack

Glad you finally got it Jack, and it's a good looking knife with some nice stag too!

I'm glad you got yours Jack, I know we've had some nightmares with deliveries over the years, not just overseas we had some issues domestically.

This year's knife, at least from my end, was the easiest forum knife to date and considering I had some serious doubts in the beginning that we'd even have a knife this year, Charlie and crew made it look effortless.

Any idea how many have yet to reach their homes?

Great looking knives everyone.
I'm glad it worked out in the end, Jack. Sounds like it you got the run around. Nothing much worse then an overzealous postal clerk.

Yes, well done, triumph snatched from the jaws of disaster! :D

Thanks Gary, it's been quite a day, but I'm glad that it made it :)

Greetings From the East Coast of Canada!

Just wondering if the knives to be shipped to Canada have been shipped yet?
No hurry, I'd just like to know.

Ken K.

I have been trying to find time to get some pics and had a minute on my lunch break. Sorry for the poor quality pics.

I am loving this knife. The tip was plenty pointy but far from sharp so I had to spend a bit of time getting that done.

Bravo Jack.
You must have the patience of a tree.
In a similar situation I would have had shall we say less aplomb?

"JUST GO GET THE *^%$en BOSS, MATE"

Just glad your wait is over.
Here's my other one that will be rehomed-
In terms of preference I could not squeeze a mailing centre clerks zits between them.

Jack, sorry to hear of the issues getting yours, glad to know it's been received. It's a beauty.

Meako, yours are lovely.

Thanks Lin.

Phew! Glad it is finally there Jack! I was starting to worry.
I am just packaging the Canadian, and some late USA ones, now. Most will ship by the weekend.
I have to bring the knives to Canada a few at a time under my daily allowance. It takes a lot of trips at 1 1/2 hours each, but at least there is no duty!
My apologies again, to those who are waiting.
