2014 BladeForums Knife Gallery

Thank you Duncan, you're right, yours is about as perfect as I've seen! Barry, you can weather wood with it and many other uses too. Paul, always great to hear from you! Just remember if you're going to use this, first you will need to wipe down the handles with rubbing alcohol to remove any wax buildup. Then you're ready to dye! GT, Bastid and Michael! Much appreciated, I was actually shooting for the very old world stag color you guys mentioned! Like on those beautiful older Case XXs. Qtips, rubbing alcohol and PP, that's all you need to do the job.

Fantastic pics Perry, I think you've done a great job with the PP my friend  It used to be a common ingredient in 'survival kits' as it has loads of uses, but here, I think, it's less easy to get hold of these days, possibly even restricted.

Yes, Perry, like Jack said: you did a great job on the potassium permanganate. I think it looks great! Of course, your original, first forum knife looks great too!

Here is another shot of my 2014 knife. I have a hard time keeping it out of my pocket.

Thank you Scott! I know what you mean about trying to keep it from being carried, just too fine a knife to leave at home!

Can't seem to find any potash here so I made do with tea-dye. Works well I feel but it has dangers, you have to nerve yourself to immerse it in very hot water and stag can swell up (for a while) or possibly react badly to it:eek: You get a nice dark patina effect on the steel too.

Thanks, Will

Thanks Jack! A few drinks helped mind:D:D However, if the water is not boiling but very hot you should...be OK, a lot depends on the pores in the stag I suspect.

what about a longer soak in colder tea?

Unfortunately the tea stain doesn't seem to work as well when it's cold.

I finally got around to taking a better picture of my SJ.

Thanks Perry. My knife is still unadulterated. I was lucky enough to get a specimen with some color.

I love this knife! Just can't put it down, stay tuned for a new handle change on my second! Jade jiggin!
Sorry, this attached picture with blade in closed position is not current.

Perry, if it turns out as nice as I expect, maybe it can be the prototype for the 2015 BladeForums knife! A 77 jackknife two years straight!

Certainly MIA! But I have a feeling he will be turnin up sometime before Summer gets here, Scott.

I've admired every one of the BF knives you folks have posted here. They are all such fantastic knives.

Well.... five months after the introduction of this knife, I think my patience has paid off. I am delighted with the outcome, and I am pleased to post my addition to the BF Gallery. I think it's a keeper.
