2014 Forum Knife

I'm liking that GEC I must say.

How "fat" will the stag scales be? I don't mind stag, but I don't like when it bulges/"fat". Will this be thin scaled or thick?

I second the "Coping" suggestion as a secondary. :)

Wow. I'd prefer the GEC single blade (but two is fine). Those look great.

An aside. I do not in any way work for BladeForums!
But, it would be cool if some of you who are Free Riders out there, could scratch up the dough and upgrade to paid membership on BladeForums. Spark saw the light and let us handle our own annual knife. I know he sometimes wonders why he does this Forum, because it is not making him rich, so a paid membership helps insure that we have this place where we enjoy meeting! 'Nuff said.

Wow…the man speaks and all of a sudden, it seems that there are more Gold Members! That’s what happens when Charlie flexes his "Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades" muscles.:D

Everyone can order as many as they would like! No limits! But once we place the order, there will be no more. I hope we get to 300 this year, as it would be a great milestone!

I’ll get the Bladeforums Knife one knife closer to the 300 quota!

If the GEC design is chosen, I, for one, would like to see it have lighter spring tension than the 78, which is a real nail breaker with a pull of around 9 on the 1-10 scale. I pulled one out to check my memory, and they are stiff. Makes it tough for those of us with RA to open. I have it opened to max tension and sitting on my desk alongside a similarly sprung 23 jack also opened to the corner of the tang. I'll check them after they set like that for a few months and I hope they are easier to open.

I honestly wasn't planning on buying the Forum Knife this year, but these options are great, especially at the price points.

Unless the voting goes horribly against my preferences, I'm probably in.

I am new here and will be going Gold this week. Once they pick the model how does this work. In other words is there a place now I can
"go in" to make sure I get a knife?

Thanks for your help.

Everyone will get a chance to order as many knives as they want. They will gladly make more that 300 if needed. There will be no 1st come 1st served.

Dave

Hope this helps!:)

There is a point where it becomes less expensive to produce knives. 150 knives would cost considerably more per knife, than a run of 300!
There are dozens of steps to building one of these things, and sometimes it takes longer to do a set up for one step, than it does to run 300 knives through that step!!
A set up that costs $5 per knife for 150 knives, can cost less than half of that per knife for 300 of them.
There is enormous economy in numbers.
Now if we could just order 1000 knives!!! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Thanks for the reply and I really appreciate what you all of you guys (and maybe gals) are doing. I really should have thought of it that way. Still, I am really curious to see how this turns out. Well, I still hope it is a 440C warnie!

In for 2! I was planning on upgrading to gold btw, ill do it in a few daysbut I do have a question. If that a requirement now? O am seeing a lot of talk about upgrades to personal accounts? Also. My vote goes for the gec sigle blade nut I'm in for two no matter what!

There is no requirement for you to have a paid account at all.

Charlie was merely reminding people that it helps out all around if people pay to support the site. You don't have to at all. You can listen to public radio without contributing, too. Completely voluntary and optional.

I have a gold membership because I like having the PM space and the option to sell on the Exchange if I want to. It costs $30 per year. That's $2.50 per month. Pretty cheap fee for the value I get out of it. You make your own call.

Mike, I'm fairly sure once everything has been finalized that Charlie will start a new thread with instructions on how to order. :)

Well I'm already a basic user so what's another 30$ lol. Thanks for clearing that up brother. Btw was going to do it regardless. More pm space and being able to sell is a nice incentive indeed.

I agree and I'm glad this subject came up. Sometimes we forget how much work and time is put into running a forum like this. It also costs money of course. I know I sure get alot of enjoyment and learn alot from this forum, so it's only right IMHO to pitch in to help out. It's the price of half a tank of gas - and it gives you a heck of alot more enjoyment than that gas ever could. :)

Not to mention you won't have those annoying ads on your screen! It's worth it just for that alone!

Well, I'm in for whatever is decided on, but I have to agree with the many voices . . . I like the offering from GEC better, but either way it will be a nice knife and CSC will step up to the plate if they are chosen!

I had gotten that Case Pocket Worn Mini Trapper..... I think the CSC half moon sized trapper could be pretty sweet. I do like the GEC offering too though. I'm not sure which one I prefer.

Either CSC or GEC works for me. I do prefer the GEC for many of the reasons that have already been articulated. Pricing is fantastic. Thanks Charlie for all you do for us! The only deal breaker for me is a Wharnnie main. Just not fond of the blade shape at all. Clip with a long pull looks soooo much better and is much more versatile IMHO.

Peter

The two-blade GEC with pulls similar to the Charlows would be just awesome. I'm with Barry on the pulls-- left my prim bone #78 open to the max spring tension and left it that way for about 3 weeks, reduced it from an 8 to a 7. A 6 would be even better.
