2014 Forum Knife

Thanks Charlie, some great choices, I'll wait till the official polling to give my vote but they are both appealing.

Done. You talked me into it.
Nice goin' deskil!

Ed, no offence taken at all! Sarah must be busy with her new job. It takes a lot of time and effort to post in the thoughtful way she does! I miss her too!:(

Also in for a gold upgrade. Should've been done long ago. We all owe Spark a debt for making a place for us to congregate.

I guess I might be putting the cart before the horse, but, I was not around last year and I suppose that once the voting is decided, the knives will be ordered and advance payment will be expected? I am wondering if everyone that wants one can pay and get one of the three hundred or if more than 300 members orders the knives, will more knives be produced to equal the advance orders ?? - or is it more like the Charlows where it is first come, first serve? Forgive me for being ignorant here.:o

Everyone will get a chance to order as many knives as they want. They will gladly make more that 300 if needed. There will be no 1st come 1st served.

Funny enough, I upgraded to gold earlier today, before I even saw this. Figured it was time. I have received FAR MORE than $30 value put of this place.

I prefer GEC over CSC but with Lloyd stag I'd honestly be happy with any configuration, especially at those price points. Bravo Charlie.

By far I would choose the GEC offering. The profile will be nicer with the stag, they have a better track record with stag, I can't pass up the long pull, shield, pinched and grooved bolsters, the full bellied clip blade with both types of swedges present in the knife. If barehead with coping isn't an option, ;) the pen shown will be quick to modify into a wharncliffe or coping if that is ones taste.

In my limited experience with Canal Street I have not cared for their swedging or level of polish as everything seemed softened/possibly polished out. The Rams horn that I saw in my first example was not to my satisfaction, fairly mismatched, and too much of the bark ground off. I hope that if they are chosen that Canal Street gives a top notch product. But in my opinion, the level of extras that GEC is offering, the more unique and pleasing design to my eye, and their recent track record to me greatly places my opinion to GEC's two blade offering, or single blade if nothing else. A 440C version would be nice from GEC, but it isn't enough to sway me to CS.

Thanks for everything Charlie, I hope that everybody's small wishes for change aren't stressing you out, wishful thinking with tons of appreciation go your way. I understand that fitting into a pricing limit was a great consideration, and I thank both companies for their efforts! I soon hope to upgrade again to platinum or new knifemaker soon, hopefully with enough time to get both the upgrade and the forum knife!

But, it would be cool if some of you who are Free Riders out there, could scratch up the dough and upgrade to paid membership on BladeForums. Spark saw the light and let us handle our own annual knife. I know he sometimes wonders why he does this Forum, because it is not making him rich, so a paid membership helps insure that we have this place where we enjoy meeting! 'Nuff said.

Well said Charlie, I went gold in my second BladeForums year and I'll never go back.

Wally at CSC has upped the options. He will put a wharncliffe secondary on the two blade if we want. He will also put a Wharcliffe Main in a one blade if we want it! We will have to decide that choice before we do the final poll.

Here is his price list, based on 300 knives.
He also has 2 steel choices, 440c and 1095. Add $2 to each price for stainless 440c. I have added the shipping and Paypal fees into the prices so these are totals. I have also added a couple of bucks for the unforseen. It happens every time!
CANAL STREET
One blades - $76
Two blades - $81

GREAT EASTERN
One blades - $74
Two blades - $86

Not bad pricing IMO!!

Just keeps getting better & better! Thank you for all you're doing Charlie & a big thanks to Sparks for providing this site for all us addicts to hangout. ;)

Sarah is very busy with her new job but she does still pop in here & there. I got a message back from her earlier in the week.

as happy as I have been with GEC on the past 2 years' forum knives, I prefer the shape of the CSC clip point to the GEC offering.
Wharncliffe and spey would make for an interesting combo, as well.
either way, whatever the consensus is, I will be ordering a 2014 forum knife.

YES!! I really like the response from you men! This is exactly what Spark asked for, just some appreciation for this wonderful place we all enjoy!
Thank You,
Dave

I have been lurking here for years and just recently registered. Thank you all for the reminder!
I just man-ed up and paid for a membership. Such a small price for all of the benefit I have
received from this forum!
