2014 Solvang Knife Show • People, Nordic Knives Shop, Incredible Knives

Let's keep going.

I got work that came to the show from various sources. (Thankfully! This helped sustain my travel expenses)

Remarkably from the past: A fantastic axe from Buster Warenski

Owen Wood's work is astounding. (He's also in the next AKI.)

(the MASS of this blade and the negative/positive grind transitions from the choil to the blade are worth noting. That and the complimentary lines open AND closed.)

Voted by the collectors as having the 'Best Body of Work' for Solvang 2014: Ken Steigerwalt

And that's what ended up on the other side of my lens. :D

Thank you for viewing and for your comments. The makers REALLY appreciate it most!

Thank you, Sir, for your taking care of those of us that didn't make the show.....your posts are the next best thing. :)

Coop, I have been checking in twice a day or so, waiting for the "carpet-bombing" of several pages of great knives, and photos to begin... What a treat... By all means, "Circle back around, open the hatch's, and let them fly again..."

(I noticed a few burnt out bums in your crowd shots that must have eluded security somehow....:D )

Thanks for the time to do this for us Jim.... Warm Regards, Rich Slaughter

The knives are even better than I imagined. Thanks Jim for bringing your magic to us common folk.

Thank you men! My pleasure.

Mitch: High praise indeed.

Coop,

Thanks for posting all of this. I have been so busy since the show . . . and I tried to post here once but the website was having some real problems. I am too embarrassed now to post my crappy pictures on this thread, but I hope you won't mind if I add a pro shot of one of Matt Lerch's knives from the Show, his Odyssey.

As far as my impressions, there are several but at this point I will limit it to the following.

1) By FAR the biggest activity was around Robert Terzuola's table. Nothing else was even close. When he drew winners from his full boxes, it was a zoo. And I met a couple of guys who came there only for his knives - and really didn't even know the other makers. Something to think about.

2) Second in terms of activity and interest at drawing time was Ken Steigerwalt. Well deserved award for best maker, IMO.

3) Makers such as Terzuola, Steigerwalt, Lerch, Loerchner, Esposito, etc. who priced their knives to "leave some meat on the bone" spurred the most interest in their knives. However it seemed to me that prices by some makers were pushing the market envelope.

4) Still, I understand that over 85% of the knives sold. I think that has to be considered very, very successful.

Personally, I brought more cash than I ever brought to any show before, and I dropped on several knives, but I only was picked for one. Still, I was happy - and I think most other attendees were as well.

Overall, it was a great show with something for most everyone, and I hope to be able to return again.

Thank you so much for the pictures. It is fun to put faces with the names. I have looked at the knives from this shop for years. Thanks for the peak inside.

As always . . Great knife images!

Hi Ken,

Thanks for this input and that STUNNING Lerch piece shown perfectly. A welcome addition.

Bob Terzuola insight is revealing. :)

kimsalls: Thanks back.
