Here is your first Poll, to help narrow down the choices for our Forum knife for this year!
We will have two knives to choose from, one each from Great Eastern and Canal Street Cutleries.
Both companies do a good job with 440C stainless and/or 1095 carbon steel. Please choose the steel you would like to see used in this year's knife.

Thanks Charlie!! I am hoping for stainless to start gaining some ground...

This should prove to be interesting. I was sort of hoping to see D2 or 154 CM in the mix though. ;)

Come on guys! 440C is a great steel and we really don't see enough of it. Give it a try!

I voted stainless since I already have enough patina'd knives.

Same here. Plus I don't have a single traditional that I can throw in my pocket for work on a hot summer day that wont be at least slightly rusted by the end of the day. I frequently work outside, so that's kind of important.

Glad to see the polls start coming. Thanks again for taking this project on.

I'm ok with either steel from either company. This would be GEC's first stock knife (the 53's are cattle knives, not stock knives) with 440C so that has some appeal to me. I've never seen 1095 from CSC so that has some appeal to me also. I know both companies will do a good job with either steel.

I suspect others feel more strongly about which steel is chosen.

440C would be great.

First CSC Forum Knife and first Forum Knife in 440C. So this will be very unique.
I almost have a ton of 1095 being around my house... ;)

My guess would be that Charlie is trying to limit it to steels that both companies would be willing to work with. That way, the choosing of the steel doesn't eliminate one of the knives being offered. This is just my guess, though.

Exactly right. Neither company will do D-2 nor 154 for a reasonable price.
The exotic steels are wonderful, but the offered steels are well treated by both.
Part of our goal here is to keep the price in a range that everyone can afford.

So far all of the Forum knives are both desirable and useful I would say.
Some are incredibly great!

Time to break the mould and try something new for a change! No Forum Knife has had a holiday from rust yet:D:thumbup::thumbup:

STAINLESS IS MORE

440C is excellent!

I voted for 1095 just to get it back to 50% for each at the time my vote went through haha. It doesn't matter to me. Im buying whatever is decided anyhow! Some may not like my reasoning. Oh well
