2015 Forum Knife. A Work in Progress!

Thank you Eric, WIP pics are always great to see!

And, I learned something new to boot - I always assumed blades were swedged after they were mounted, not before.

Swedging is done both ways, onespd. I watched a cutler doing drawn swedges on finished knives at Queen cutlery 12-14 years ago! I thought to myself "If he screws up, that is a lot of work down the drain!"
But he unerringly cut matching swedges, free hand on a wheel, time and again!!
GEC does cut swedges on their blade grinders.

Eric is doing drawn swedges. Cut swedges have a shoulder or plunge cut at the start.

In a moment of real need I sold my 2014 Forum knife. They were truly a magnificent knife at an unbelievable price and I hated to see it go. Being that I got rid of it, I planned to sell this one. Not because I don't like it, I think it's going to be a near perfect edc. I just still am in a downsizing and won't have the pair. But man these look cool. I know I'll enjoy getting to check one out, even if I can't keep it.

they sure are nice, im still looking for one, the worst was when i missed it by 40 minutes! o how you elude me 2014 bladeforums knife

Not as much fun as knife in progress pics, but I have a press proof for the labels. Once I OK the final on the right stock, those are going to Canal St.

Beautiful label Liam, Charlie, couldn't agree more with the back label. Stellar job all around. :)

It's hard to read, so I thought I'd post a larger version of the back Label!
(My usual scribbling!!)

2015: Another Year, Another BF Knife!

The process is intense, somewhat scattered, and reasonably democratic! I like putting together all the opinions and ideas about pattern, blades, handles and all the other details that bring our “celebration” knives together. I say “celebration”, because that is what it represents to me, and hopefully to all of you; a celebration of a place where we can gather and talk about one of our favorite subjects!

It is sometimes raucous, but I am amazed that several hundred people can give and take, compromise really, and come up with something that looks so good! And then to have this knife constructed by one of our own members – can it get any better??

The Credits!

Thanks!!!!! To Canal Street for facilitating this production, and thanks to Eric who supervised and literally bled for the knives! More thanks to Liam for the labels on the boxes; he designed and printed them.

Kudos to Barry who collected and protected our money, and shipped out all the knives. This guy is our heavy lifter!!!

The Mods who kept the peace are a credit to BladeforumS, who we also thank for letting us do it our way!

To all others who helped along the way, may I offer thanks from all of us!

Me, I just get to bask in the glory of all these people!

Use your new Bladeforums knife in good health, and never, ever forget to oil the joints!!!

Nice work, Liam. Is there a larger closeup photo of the back label?

Edit:

HA! Charlie is a mind reader! ;) Nice work on the write up!

Sure, make me squint to read it Charlie but squint I did and reread too when you posted the text. I liked it both times :).

I agree, love that label there, it is very fitting !

Eric promised some more pics soon!

Wow, some really pretty ones in the batch. It's like the wood lottery now

There is a lot of variety in those scales! I love seeing the WIP pics, keep them coming:)

Liam & Charlie, love the label, it is on par with the knife, just on the back it is Charlie Waynorth, not waynorth.
I apologize if you corrected before, it's just my 10cts.

Wow, those trays the scales are in appear to have been around. Think of the stories they could tell.
