2015 NorthEast Beckerhead Gathering. Oct 9-11.

Good info, gents. I'll have to set it up again one more time in the next couple of weeks and see if I can get either the Thermarest or some thing else to work. I was also having a bit of trouble getting all the way into my bag (NF Cat's Meow) which was making it hard to get the hood of the bag over my head. Got a few more practice runs to do beforehand, I guess. Also couldn't set up the tarp as I was swinging over the treehouse platform....The hammock is the ENO OneLink set with the DoubleNest as a base. Luckily, the tent is eeuge and I don't think my kids will bum out if I end up bailing on tree dwelling. It's so big I can inflate the queen size air bed for myself, two twin air beds for the girls, and still plenty of room for other stuff. Giant Coleman.

That's awesome, JP! I slept outside in my hammock last night, temp dropped down in the low 40's (high 30's) and I bailed out about 5:45 am due to kinda being a little frozen. Gonna hafta find a better setup for cold weather, or I'll be tenting with my girls.

I was feeling pretty good about my test setup until I read this LOL

It only got to 55 last night but with an inflatable thermarest in between the hammock and the SOL blanket and no tarp overhead I was warm in the hammock and cold out of it. I was getting the occasional shiver/chill watching the lunar eclipse in just a tshirt and cargo pants but when I got in the hammock I'd warm up fairly quick my daughter tried it too and same result, she actually tried it with the pad in the hammock and said it was even warmer. I wasn't able to get the reflectix over the weekend but I ordered 48" wide x 25' long roll so another test next weekend worse case I'll bring my big tent as well.

Here's what I did
2 person SOL blanket, shock cord length wise as main suspension, shock cord and cord locks head and feet for cinching

Here it is on the Moskito Kakoon with the thermarest in between

I couldn't find big enough cord locks to double over the shock cord so I tied overhand loops and used a 25lb sbiner and a prusik knot for the blanket's suspension

That is awesome Mr. Indian!

Before I had my underquilt I took a reusable space blanket and a woobie, tied them together and folded them lengthwise so that the reflective side was towards me and layed on that.

Also don't forget that the blue foam sleeping pads have a lot of R value for what they are, often times more than a thermarest. Hamock guys like those reflective car windshield shades to lay on as well.

Thanks man!

I was reading that and there seems to be a debate about closed foam as opposed to open foam pads, I think the reflectix will be the same if not a little better than the windshield shades but only one way to tell by getting into the cold and that's less than 2 weeks away :D

Made it home from Western Canuckistan this morning. Still not sure if I'll be able to make it or not, but the plotting begins...

That is ok, none of us are made of sugar.

Jeremy

Speak for yourself, Butterball. This one is sweet as pie.

(I have no idea what that means)

Hmm... IF the weather plays out as predicted AND it looks like I can come, THEN perhaps I will drive up Saturday morning for one overnight. Do you think there will be space, Jason? (I don't have much to show this season. :-( )

Yeah, you just got that herd of turkeys and butter doesn't mix with water. Seemed appropriate, for some generous value of appropriate...

Daiz, have you seen the size of my tent? If worse comes to worse, I'll put up one of the partitions and you can have separate quarters.....

Jason,

I say we find two stout trees and a ladder and make a high-rise hammock suite :) I've done double hammocks before, lets go for 4+ :)

I can make it up on Saturday, thanks again to Trailbum for hosting and the invite. If anyone else would bring a bow I can bring my Block target. I cant wait to see you all there, always a great time.
