What shaoe should the main blade of the 2016 BladeForums knife be?

I'd prefer clip, but I like the spear too. Why not a round tip blade for spreading peanut butter and soft cheese? The punch has a tip if you need one. Opinel and Victorinox make a round tip blade. It would be something different and pretty functional as a camp knife, imo. Low profile when closed, like a spear.

I do really like a clip, but after reading many posts based on experience and the construction of an EE I could see why spear makes a good deal of sense. Regardless of the final decision I'm sure the knife will be excellent and I'm looking forward to it.

There's a fair amount of new old stock GEC knives available via online dealers that have a punch with spear or clip. I don't mean any offense, but also want to throw out my opinion. I was interested in the forum knife to begin with but what it's evolved into isn't very exciting to me. Everyone wants different things so I'm sure there is many out there that will be excited for this knife. Should be interesting to see how it turns out - maybe I will change my mind after the specifications are ironed out. I didn't vote so those more interested can get what they want.

I'm a big fan of clip points, but a spear would be my second choice. It's all good!

I like the looks of the terrier maybe more rounded spear. I picked the clip but will be happy either way.

Thanks to all putting in the work to bring this together.

This years knife is going to be amazing and thank you to everyone involved! That being said, this knife pattern is timeless and built on tradition, so for that reason I think the correct blade profile is a spear... And if we can get some indian trails on the covers that would awesome too! ;)

I prefer spear as it appears to have been the standard for the pattern, and I think recreating real traditional patterns is important to GEC and to Charlie.

I agree on a swedge and long pull. I also prefer a satin finish.

FWIW I'm not interested in this knife but it will be interesting to see how the poll turns out. Not trying to be argumentative or cause a problem, but to put this in perspective assuming 300 knives are sold this is a scant 1.5% of the "active members" as shown in the bladeforums.com statistics. It may be the "forum knife" but practically speaking it is a special factory order made available via the forum for 300 or so people who are interested. I hope those who are interested get the knife they want.

Clip.

You have a punch for the pokey part, why not add some belly with a clip?

The 2015 forum knife had a Clip, as did the 2014, as did the 2012. The last forum knife with a Spear was in 2011

And.....if the BFC Traditional in 2016 is a spear, I predict less will be sold than last year.

There is an interesting correlation that I have noticed on the polls.....when it comes time to pay up, many of the most vocal are ordering the least, or not at all.

Just out of curiosity, are you stating that a Clip pointed Cigar Harness Jack is NOT traditional?

As Traditionals are only PART of my knife interest, I only get the ones that I like, and in this case, it would be:
2008
2009(2)
2012(2), my 2nd favorite in totality, but favorite to carry...it's a VERY useful knife
2015

Thought that 2007, 2011, and 2013 were horrid, proving yet again, there is something for everyone....and tastes can often differ according to aesthetic, knowledge and preferred use.

um, it's the Traditional knives subforum knife?
that's why the discussion about and selection of an uncommon variant of a traditional pattern.

and to keep the post on topic - I voted spear, zulu spear would be gravy.

I like the spear. Assuming this thread is the poll? Many have said "I voted for" as if there is another thread with an actual clickable poll on top. If I missed it, please add a link.

I think the discussion is better suited for the discussion thread than the poll thread. But just a quick note... There was a possibility that there wasn't going to be a knife this year since last year was supposed to be Charlie's last year. Charlie stepped up to the thankless task again this year. It's all happened a bit differently than previous years. A lot of folks even said Charlie could pick whatever he wanted. I know that not everyone thinks the same thing but it seems sort of poor that the tone has changed from "pick whatever you want" to "I don't like it". Harness jacks aren't my cup of tea but I think the design is good for a harness jack and I will be supporting the project. His original idea was a caplifter and I think that would have sold out quickly but some folks were strongly against another caplifter. I hope that this harness jack project is success. It might even be the last forum knife if nobody takes Charlie's place (can anybody really take Charlie's place?!)
