2016 forum knife ordering thread - SOLD OUT

There are some left to order aren't there?!?

There are still about 70 left available, and that is the end of them!

I have shipped out all 200 I received from GEC before they took the week off, so I'll probably get the rest of the order on Monday the 17th if all goes well, but I'm guessing.

Keep the photos coming! The individual covers are incredible! More reviews as well please!!!! :D:D:D:D

Well, dagnabit. I hate to be the first (and hopefully the only) naysayer but it looks like mine will need to go back to GEC for repair.

The Spear blade rests too far over. It pushes on the tang of the Punch making the Punch difficult to open. The Punch blade opens just fine as long as the Spear blade is already open and out of the way. Also when attempting to close the Punch blade the Spear blade is in the way. It needs pushed over like a liner lock to get the Punch moving in the closed direction. Then the tang of the Punch rubs on the Spear blade keeping it from closing on its own. The punch blade has to be pushed closed.

So I guess I'll be contacting Christine when she gets back to work.

On a positive note, I really like the label and the very inspirational note from Charlie on the tube.

I can't wait to see it in person and touch it. I really love that pokey thing, I will think of things to poke with it while I wait.

Rick, you're not the only one who will have to contact Christine. The punch on mine lays it's full length against the liner and can only be pushed away from the liner when the spear is open. I'm hoping the turn around time to correct this is short because other than the blade rub it is a special knife. :(

Rick, I had the same problem. I don't think mine is rubbing on the main blade though. I think it is just tight against the scale on one side and the catch bit on the other. I have been opening and closing and it is getting better. Also, if I change my angle of pull on it then it opens easier. Or it could be gunk in the joint that needs to be cleaned out. I usually flush it out with oil many times when that happens.

I had a GEC 15 with the same problem. I've had it for 18 months now and you would never know how it was when I first got it.

Anyway, good luck!

Thank you for the insight, Dean. I will try playing around with it but it's odd that the Punch opens and closes perfectly with the Spear blade opened and out of the way. And there is no mistaking that the Spear blade needs pushed out of the way to get the Punch started closing. The Spear blade acts like a liner lock for the Punch. Thank you though. I'll give it a workout and see how it is by Monday when GEC comes back to work.

Here's a pic I took after I posted earlier. Not sure how well the tang can be seen rubbing on the Spear blade. After looking at this pic again I see that it looks pretty tight against the liner too like you mentioned.

That might be a simpler way of describing the same problem I'm having.

Hopefully the problems posted above are the exceptions... maybe GEC should double check a few tubes before shipping the next batch...

I'm having the same issues. When the spear blade is closed the punch won't budge. It opens fine she the spear is open, but it won't snap closed. I have to push it all the way down.
I'm about to go give it a thorough washing and flushing and hope that helps.

On mine, I found a very slight burr on the brass liner of the nail nick access that caused the same problem. I just forced the punch closed a couple times & the burr came off, although I'll probably ease the edge a bit with a file.

What an awesome knife. The main blade opens so smooth with a fairly light pull. I have the same issue with the punch, but am not too worried about it. I just open the main blade out of the way. Color is really similar to antique yellow jigged bone on my 15 and 85. I love the size and how thin it is with the single spring. Great knife. Thanks again to all involved.

That was some fast shipping too. Mine already made it to Texas. Wasn't expecting it until tomorrow.

I ordered one and now I am worried about getting one with the punch rubbing.

Should have waited

Some day I'll figure out how to do a knife video that shows mostly knife, instead of the back of my hands. Obviously, today isn't that day.:o
Hope you can see that the punch opens with no problem  while the spear main is closed.

Thanks all those who posted photos and video, great looking knife! Love the bone, both colour and jigging!
