UPDATE: I was able to free up the punch blade by sanding the pile side liner using 220 grit sandpaper (first filling the well with a small piece of cloth to catch the debris). I then cleaned the joints with WD 40, alcohol, compressed air and oiled (mineral oil). There is a small amount of blade rub between punch and liner but it can now be opened with the spear blade closed. I'm glad this home remedy helped because I'm really liking this knife and now I get to keep it.Rick, you're not the only one who will have to contact Christine. The punch on mine lays it's full length against the liner and can only be pushed away from the liner when the spear is open. I'm hoping the turn around time to correct this is short because other than the blade rub it is a special knife.![]()
ah so the blade is canted a bit too allow for it the awl
No, the blade isn't canted. It has a swedge ground in it to allow for the punch, the catch bit provides the room as well. That's pretty basic design for single spring knives with 2 blades.
sorry i didnt know the proper term to describe the effect. thanks!
In some single spring muti-blade builds the blades are offset, which is the case in the Drover. In other builds the blades may be crinked, actually bent just forward of the tang, to allow for proper closing.
Personally I like offset blades. They did a nice job on the Drover, in my opinion.
I just got my knife. What sort of superhuman finger nails do I need to pull out the punch... I haven't been able to do it even once. All I am left with are bent/chipped thumbnails D:
