2016 GEC Rendevous Dates

It would be a lot of driving, but I'd like to hit Queen's factory and the Case factory on the other side of the state that weekend in addition to GEC. Do you know if Queen scheduled their event for the same week?

Yes - same weekend. Queen has scheduled factory tours on Thursday, August 11 and the Historical Society Knife Show on Friday (8/12) and Saturday (8/13). The show is held at the Pleasantville Fire Hall which is just a few miles from Titusville.

Heard back from Case that they're not hosting tours due to renovations, but it would be neat to visit the Zippo store and look at the knives for sale. Plus, the KaBar factory is only a half hour from the Case factory.

GEC, Queen, Case and Kabar. That would be a road trip for the ages. Ken Daniels told me he can only open his factory once a year to the public, safety and insurance issues. I really don't want to miss this again. It will be the Saturday after I return from my vacation to the Maryland shore.

I believe the Queen Factory Tour is on Thursday? GEC closes at Noon on Saturday.

Silent....the KA-BAR factory isn't open to the public. A few miles away is the "Visitor Center" which is a little museum of sorts for KA-BAR Knives along with Cutco Kitchen Cutlery (they're both owned by Alcas). Trust me, it leaves A LOT to be desired. It's very small and not what many people expect.

The Case/Zippo museum however is very informative and really cool to see. As you walk through, you'll get history of both brands at the same time. Everything in the store is at MSRP so there's no deals to be had but they have just about every knife available for purchase, even the Case/Bose colabs.

Now to the subject at hand, GEC is good to see and the tour really lets you see exactly how the knives are made. I haven't been to Queen so I don't know what to expect there.

My wife and I went to a wedding this weekend, and while we were there a couple of the ladies came up with the idea to have a "girl's weekend" sometime this summer. They just couldn't come up with a date. I casually threw out that August 12th to the 14th would be a nice weekend to get away and they seemed to all be in favor. The foundation has been laid for me to have the weekend free to make it out to PA for this year's rendezvous. I'm pretty pumped about it. I'm thinking I might bring the kids along and camp. I'm heading off right now to check out reservations for Allegheny National Forest as Jake suggested. :D

Last year I was only able to make it on Saturday afternoon but I'll try to come earlier this year and I'll definitely bring some good Ohio beer to pass around at the picnic too! :D Looking forward to seeing everybody again!

OK, I'm a first timer here and somebody has to give me a heads up on these things. Is bringing a beverage to pass around customary at these rendezvous? I was planning on showing up with a pocket full of knives and a wallet full of cash that my wife doesn't know about. What else do I need? Being from Wisconsin, showing up with no beer to share would be quite embarrassing.

Mrknife, see ya there. I only live two hours away, over in Ohio so if I spend any nights out there I'll just hit a campsite. Anyone interested in doing some car camping out there, hit me up.

Cory, I don't think there's any tradition of bringing bevs, it's just my region is blessed with wineries and breweries so I'll be sharing the wealth. However, if you had some spare Spotted Cow from New Glarus we could certainly trade some six packs!

I would love to go to this not only to visit the factory but to meet some of you in person but there is no possible way.
