2016 GEC Rendevous Dates

What are the odds of GEC creating a lifetime membership in the way that Buck does with its' BCCI…for those of us that want some of the Rendezvous loot, but can't make the trip to Titusville? :o
My personal guess, based on mostly nothing but kind of on how the Rendezvous goes, not very likely. They don't make enough parts knives or Rendezvous knives to fulfill as big a group as that would become.

I wanted to end my night with a post that's a little bit lighter.

I never came back and updated, but I have reserved a site at Tionesta Rec. Area Campground for August 10th through 17th. I figured that if we're driving all the way out there we might as well stay long enough to see everything the area has to offer. :D

My father and my two eldest kids will be accompanying me. The kids are 9 and 6. I looked up the Queen tour and saw a video where some people had small children with them. Does GEC usually allow kids on their tour? I ask because I wouldn't be surprised to hear that kids running around a factory might be a liability issue. :p

I'm really looking forward to meeting some of you and putting faces to screen names. I'm really excited to be heading out to the rendezvous in general. A week of camping and knives, what could be better?

You won't have any problems with the kids touring GEC. A lot of the tour is viewed from above the factory floor along a walk way. It's definitely informative and amazing to see everything it takes for them to put out a single knife. Hope you enjoy yourself there as much as I have.

Thanks for the info, Johnny. That's a good thing to hear.

My last question is about the Sunday picnic. I plan on bouncing around a bit during the rendezvous so that the kids don't end up bored and in trouble. Is the picnic something that is going to keep their attention enough to be worthwhile or should I plan on maybe stopping in but not staying? I ask because they're asking for reservations ahead of time. If it's a normal cookout with people playing games and a decent enough chunk of grass for the kids to run around a little without bumping into people I think we'd really like to do that. If it's more low key and/or there's not a lot of space we'd probably skip it so that we're not ruining other people's experience. Thanks for any help you veterans can offer this newbie.

I don't know if I can make it, but I got to stop and spend some time with Ryan and Ken Daniels at the Mason Dixon knife show this past April. It was good to see them and Ryan was very excited about their yearly get together. Ken had told me last year that he was very happy about setting up the shop tour and told me that he could only do it once a year. Both Ryan and Ken were quite enthusiastic about my coming up, and others coming up. They talked about the GEC get together, the knife show at the firemans hall etc. They also talked about parting on good terms with Bill. I was surprised at how excited they were, especially after the Ohio show they'd put on the previous weekend. I am looking forward to going, just don't know if I can make it.

I won't be there, but personally I think kids running around having fun makes any event more enjoyable, not less.

Seems like the people at GEC agree with you. I talked to Chris today and she said that they are holding the picnic at a park outside of town and that there's plenty of space for kids to run around. I was thinking that they held it outside of their shop.

I got us signed up for four, so we're all set. Thanks to everybody in this thread that shared information. It's going to be quite a trip for us and I really appreciate getting some input from people that have been there before. I'm pretty stoked about this trip. I'm going to go wait in the truck, see you guys in two and a half months. :p

Keep the windows cracked!! It's gonna get hot this week! I'll probably only make it on Thursday again this year. It all depends on the work schedule.

yikes, i should probably book a room soon. took month of august off and this is one of my first stops

Donna a I will be there again, can't wait, we had a great time last year. How many of you all are staying at Cross Creek? Great to get together for a beer on the deck at night and bs about knives and such.

Sounds like a lot of folks plan to attend this year, I hope to make it down there too, a longish drive for me as well, but always nice to see everyone again too.

And maybe Sarah, that one guy will be on hand to help us sharpen your knife again ;) that was interesting!

yeah looks like ill have to book at cross country creek after all. the other places are all booked except the caboose motel which kinda looks sketchy to me

did you book? theres mass transit! how about greyhound?

Not yet my trucks had a major issue with it engine head gasket was leaking and it finally died and with work I only get two days so public doesn't work. I want a picnic knife so so bad. But I just have to deal with it.

Per Knife magazine, Queen is having their Historical Society tour and show the same weekend in the same town.
