2016 Shot show, Eric Glesser shows some new models!

Spyderco certainly listens to their customers. Firstly, giving people a choice between a Mantra and Mantra 2. Secondly, the "issues" with the original Rubicon seem to be addressed with the update. The "issues" are: too thick, sharp edges on backspacer and the price.

That Sage 5 is a must with CF and Compression Lock! Great addition to the locking mechanism tribute series.

I agree. I like how they improve and revise their designs on customer feedback. The Delica, for example, is a masterpiece after 4 revisions over the years. I wish Kershaw would do the same. I'm not as impressed with their 2016 lineup.

The Sage 5 will be in mine as soon as it hits the market and I think I'm going to pick up the Ouroboros too. It is the year of the compression lock for Spyderco! This is what I've been waiting for! On another note, it was a little sad to see the Nirvana just sitting in the corner the entire time, I don't think it's going to do well.

All I can say is ... Sage ... 5 ... in ... my ... pocket!

And may I suggest calling the new G10 "indigo" instead of "blurple"? Indigo is the color between blue and purple, the "I" in "ROYGBIV," and quite fitting, IMHO.

"Blurple" sounds like what happens an hour after consuming Taco Bell and cheap wine. :)

That Sage 5 looks awesome!! I don't even have a Sage 1 yet! Gonna have to start selling stuff just to get caught up.

Before watching the video, I was excited to see the Lil Lum and the Nirvana. Now I'm even more excited for the Lum, but like some others I'm sad they didn't mention the Nirvana. Same for the Minuteman. I do think the Nirvana will do alright though, since it's essentially an integral frame midtech at normal midtech prices (i.e. the price of a micarta Sebenza). I'll certainly be picking one up when it's made available.

However, I'm now also really excited for the Ouroboros. The design looks really comfortable and useful, and more compression locks are never a bad thing!

Judging from the comments, I expected to be more excited by the new Rubicon, to the point where I thought I might trade my current Rubicon for a new one. However, for me the main draw of the original was the 3D CF scales. The blade is still beautiful, but I think the peel-ply scales shown don't quite cut it. Do like the smooth backspacer though.

The other thing I noticed is that the 40th Anniversary native is a linerless CF. I'm not a huge fan of the Native series, but I think a regular production blade in linerless CF could be pretty popular if priced only a little higher than the current G-10 models. You get the rigidity of the G-10 models, but with the weight savings of the Lightweights. Make it in S110V at ~$200 and I think there's a market for it.

I am pumped about their new Ouroboros. I love the history and symbolism of the Ouroboros, I think the handle looks surprisingly ergonomic and roomy, the blade shape looks really versatile, and it has the compression lock! Definitely near or at the top of my "to buy" list.

And the compression Sage!

I think the new models are all fantastic, but I think the asking prices for some of them are way out of proportion to what we as consumers get as far as materials go; this is especially jarring with the Introvert, which I thought was goofy until Mr. Eric Glesser talked about it a bit. If it cost half of what it does at the most, I might have considered adding one to my collection. As a matter of fact, I feel the same way about the Mamba and Myrtle, too, which also catch my eye but likely will not find a home in my Spyderpac due to what I feel is too high an asking price for what you get.

The Mantras, however, I feel very differently about. I think these are a good value and I intend to pick the 1 up sometime down the road.

I like the Sage 5 and think it's a good design, but as I already own a Sage 1 and a PM2, I feel it would be a very redundant purchase for me personally.

I really, really dig the Ouroboros. We'll see what the street prices stabilize at before I decide whether or not I plan to buy one.

well, i just wish these were more readily available in germany. also the prices over here are outragous... that's what basically caused me to transition to european makers.

Spyderco started MAP at the beginning of this year. They'll all, except for sprints maybe, be priced at %60 of the MSRP.

Is there even anything European which comes somewhat close to Spyderco? I mean Opinels are great but don't really compare. :-p

Most of my friends and family in Germany count on me to bring them proper and reasonable priced sharp stuff from America. If instead there is a good European company for modern folders with ok prices, that would help.

well, it depends on what you are looking for but i'd name Maserin, Viper Technocut, Lionsteel, mayb Enzo and then it already get's to the point where you are getting into bad price/value territory... of course that always depends on your budget. and you can always get a böker on a budget.
It is kind of sad that it is easier to get all kind of Kizer blades here than say spyderco or benchmade at a normal price. and no, catalog price in dollar = price in euro is not a normal price.

That's right, I forgot. Herpa derpa me. I guess we'll see what the new year brings. If my new career path works out, this'll be one hobby where I won't have to think too much about the costs involved...in which case, you'll need a task force to keep me from buying all of these Spydies! :)

While I agree their prices often seem high given the materials, I think that's the premium you pay for Spyderco's willingness to take a chance on unique (i.e. weird) designs.

Spyderco more than any other company I think is willing to take the chance on producing funky but functional designs, and in much smaller quantities than their regular production models. That's where we get the sprint runs and all these cool collaborations. Now I don't claim to be an expert on their business, but my guess is that they don't actually make that much off of the weird designs; that's what their regular production models are for. They probably even lose money on some of thebut

What I'm getting at is that the extra money you pay for stuff like the Introvert not only pays for the much smaller production numbers, but also subsidizes the knives that don't sell, and keeps Spyderco in business making quirky knives.

I do agree that the prices make it somewhat hard to collect, but they're the only knives I find myself actually wanting to collect.

The Ouroboros looks interesting, but the Sage 5 will be my.....My Precious! I can imagine it now, down in my man cave. In a dark corner, Sage 3 in my left hand and a Sage 5 in my right. No nasty Hobbits's will be able to steal thems away! Ahhh, My Precious's'!!

Wow, what a lineup of new models. Just wow. Still waiting on pins to hear/see the Minuteman tho...
