2018 #82 Dixie Stockman and Possum Skinner Run

I decided I’d buff my knife when I got home from work just to see how it would look. I quickly used a polishing wheel (cloth type fiber) that mounts to the end of my drill driver and some Mother’s Mag Polish. I like it so much that I’m going to wet sand the micarta to get it even smoother, this way I can get a brighter polish on it.

I like the contrast from the shiny bolsters to the satin blades.

Good work! I’m not a satin bolster guy myself.

Nicely done. I had planned to do the same with mine, mainly for the added resistance to corrosion. I need to get on that. :-)

Thanks for the comments, I think it’s a little dressier looking now but it’s not over the top by any means. It’s hard to tell from the pictures but it adds quite a bit of depth to the fibers in the micarta which I like to see. It looked too “flat” before.

Looks great! I usually go this route with any satin bolstered knives I get. How are the pull weights on your knife?

They’re all pretty close, about a 4 or so, with the wharncliffe taking the lead by a little. It’s lighter than I prefer but with the cam tang it makes for such a buttery smooth opening and closing that I wouldn’t want a stronger spring to interfere with it. I’m a happy camper, very happy. So much so that I purchased a stag and am considering the Possum Skinner also when they come out.

That looks really good, the way it should have been from the factory. Fortunately it's not a hard thing to change.

Bunch of nice 82's everyone. I have picked up 3 so far, micarta, bone and stag, quality of all 3 is excellent, no blade rub on any of them and finished to a high level of quality. I just wish they would go back to putting shields on the stag.

The backsprings on this pattern are excellently finished, really tight and smooth to the touch. The latest ones look just as good, impressive even:cool:

I liked the buffing job on the Micarta Stockman Jsega51 Jsega51 I dislike matte bolsters and shine mine up with a leather strop. How do you stop the micarta getting black patches of buffing compound which seems to stain micarta?

Seems the Elderberry versions and Micarta Skinners are not going to be at the dealers before Christmas...have to put my stalking gear away for a few days :D

Regards, Will
