Only one answer here BURLAP. Don't want to vote for another synthetic they're miles behind.

I'd really like this as our choice of scales, the picture shows how well it looks on the Stockman type frame as well!

Time to rig the voting machines...:D:D motto Vote Early and Vote Often :D

That burlap micarta is sick, I love the depth. But I'm going to buy the barehead 501 that skblades will be selling soon ... so I'm hoping for something else in the long run even though I voted for it.
I'm thinking that a matched pair would be something special:thumbsup::D:thumbsup: Preston

Here's an example from a previous thread. Reposting here in case you or others missed it. :)

While the Burlap is awesome looking, it is nearly as smooth as straight acrylic scales... For a knife that does not have a lot of surface area, the traction added by the texture of the Canvas or even Linen micarta is a definite plus.

If that is the case, would we be better served by canvas or linen micarta? Just asking.

I prefer canvas. Even brought up to 5k then polished, when wet the fibers swell adding traction. This can be from water or perspiration. When it dies, it goes back to smooth.

That being said, my preference is for a 400-600 grit finish then sand blasted like the GEC 85s were.

NJBillK is correct; In my experience Burlap Micarta looks great feels like plastic.

What was on last year's Barlow? With a little darkening, my pile side looks like lizard skin. Starting to really warm up to it. But that sample pic on here of burlap looks spectacular!

My question here is whether people voting for burlap have ever actually owned a knife in burlap or if they simply like the looks in pictures? Haha. I may get flamed for this, but in pics it's looks like..."yeah!" Holding it in-hand, it becomes like..."meh." Using it for a while it ends up like...aw, crap!"

If you've actually owned it and used it...and you still love it, hey, to each his own (the world is full of different people). But if you've never owned/used it...think twice! ;)

MCar MCar You're speaking from experience, using Burlap and it ends up like aw crap? How so? It wears out? Flakes?

It's true that any material may look deceptively good in a picture but I can say that apart from outgassing Cell, I've never found a scale material that I think is crap after handling it for a while;)

The only synthetic I prefer on a knife is delrin.
Yellow maybe? :)

Uncoated ("normal") burlap micarta feels great in hand but can get dirty with use. Acrylic-coated burlap micarta won't, and although the shine could dull with use it shouldn't be hard to buff it back, I wouldn't think . . . ?
Uncoated canvas micarta darkens with use and I don't think it would show much character in such a small scale.

Your opinion is highly respectable, but I think people need stronger argument (facts) to change their mind.:) I don't feel concerned, preferring paper for a change.
