Qualifier: I did not vote for elk covers, I am not particularly excited for elk, and I still wish that Ram's horn won.

HOWEVER, I will be more than satisfied if each of the covers resemble the elk sample skblades skblades previously posted. If that counts as "knobby" then I am all for it.

Thanks for your efforts skblades skblades . I plan to order at least one of whatever knife we end up cobbling together.

Waiting for more photos is a good idea. The fact that the delivery could be in 8 weeks makes the wait tolerable.

I think I would be going for the smooth or polished elk.

That knobby sample needs to be sanded/polished flat down to the bolsters. It has a huge swell in the center and it looks the knobby elk spider mites have gotten to it already. I'm sure some poor guy now has spider mites in his pockets. Knobby elk spider mites are the worst.

No! Not those horrible Knobby Elk Spider Mites!!!

I’m off to google which bite is more painful, the Knobby Elk Spider Mites, or the dreaded Desert Ironwood Borer. After all, it’s going to be right down there in my pocket!

Maybe I’d better switch my vote to something that vermin won’t eat! Unless the reason they won’t eat it, and maybe create mayhem in my pants is that it’s toxic.

I’m ashamed to say that I’m glad my choice of ironwood was beat out by elk. That sample looks great!
And on the topic of flippers, I mean absolutely no disrespect to buck, but as I remember it there was ample time to purchase the last two forum knives. Both of which were Charlie C SFOs which are highly sought after. The last one being a TC, and if those escaped the mad rush of flippers then I’m pretty sure we’re safe with this one. I think we will be all right with a simple link to your store. If you must implicate some preventative measures than a max order might work with the ability to order extras after a week or two to give everyone plenty of time to get theirs.

Thanks again. This is turning out to be quite the stunner!

I'm a little stuck on the next poll because I am wanting to have visual examples (samples) for everyone before we post it. It's too important of a vote to leave up to our imaginations. Buck has one sample done, but I need the smooth version. As you can see below, we have the knobby sample done, and to add insult to injury, a beautiful ironwood example. We needed these sooner, which is why I'm going to hold off on the next poll until I have samples ready. All options need representation.

I am just so happy about that knobbly elk. It looks perfect to me. I have no problem with ironwood, but honestly, for wood scales I really prefer shadow patterns with bird's eye pivots... That elk looks just right with the nickle silver slanted bolsters. Could you imagine those bolsters lined? I know it is cost prohibitive, but I want to know just how cost prohibitive it is.

I am excited thinking about my knobbly stockrat!

I like a polished knife even with bolsters but with grooves. Almost where they sand the high spots smooth. Your second option on previous page was lik that and Jr Lloyd does knives like that a lot too.

I am surprised that no one has commented that both sample knives appear to have three blades since both the sheep foot and spey blade are visible. Most likely, their stock 301's were used for this example.

That's my guess. Looks like the blades on the samples aren't flat ground, either.

I notice that there are no pins, not even a center pin. Are the forum knives going to be built this way as well? A skeleton with the covers simply glued on? I remember when a forum knife prospect was required to be fully pinned like the old traditional knives were, with center pins and cover pins. Times sure have changed.

Pins are up for vote in the next round of polls, I believe. Or one of the next rounds, however that plays out.

Great! Thought those samples were how the finished product would look. Thanks for the clarification!
