You’re already doing a great job with this undertaking.
Bearing in mind I know very little about computers/ programming, how about a private order form/ page on your server/website that can only be accessed by a link in the order thread of this forum? This way, members will be the only ones to have access to the order form, and you can keep your sanity and an accurate means of cataloging orders.
Just a thought.

John
That's exactly what I had in mind.

I don’t think it’s a matter of people who are BF members but don’t regularly visit this forum ordering, but the overall general public who may see the knife up for order on skblades skblades website and make large quantity orders to resell.

John
And they definitely won't see it on the main site. I'll have it private, and link access only through the forum.

The issue about reselling is a good point, given the special situation here in that SKBlades is not allowed to profit from this venture. If flippers go buy them and then go make the profit from them, skblades is essentially donating his time and energy for free, while others take advantage of him and profit off of the knives nonetheless.

For me to get in front of this darn computer and get r done!

I know you have a lot going on and everyone asking for something - so I'm sorry to add to that o_O!

For the next poll please consider three cover finishing options: Knobby, Smooth, and Polished.

Thank you for the massive amount of time you are putting in for us! You Rock!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I think if the handle texture poll has more than 2 options, it will be 100% guarantee that knobby will win. The smooth & polish votes would be separated and split between the 2.

I'm a little stuck on the next poll because I am wanting to have visual examples (samples) for everyone before we post it. It's too important of a vote to leave up to our imaginations. Buck has one sample done, but I need the smooth version. As you can see below, we have the knobby sample done, and to add insult to injury, a beautiful ironwood example. We needed these sooner, which is why I'm going to hold off on the next poll until I have samples ready. All options need representation.

What kind of finish will the blades have? Satin or mirror polished? Or even crocus?

If all the elk looks like the sample side shown, we've got a tremendous winner.

Are there any rules to prevent Stephen from buying as many knives as he wants for himself (at the same price the rest of the forumites pay), and then reselling them later for a reasonable markup? Spark could certainly do the same thing, as could any other forumite. In fact, the more knives that are sold initially should curb the flipping later on, because most people that want one would already have one.

That knobby sample needs to be sanded/polished flat down to the bolsters. It has a huge swell in the center and it looks the knobby elk spider mites have gotten to it already. I'm sure some poor guy now has spider mites in his pockets. Knobby elk spider mites are the worst.

If that elk sample is truly representative of all ~250 orders, do we even need to vote on which specific antlers to use?

I'm okay if we do, but that is spectacular work by Buck, and don't see myself voting for anything other than knobby, barring something astonishing.

How can you not LOVE that elk? Stunning!

How is smooth different from polished?

The poll would be best if it was knobby v smooth.

I posted a bunch of pictures a few pages back. The Buck subforum has a thread with a bunch of smooth, polished, knobby images. Here's a pic of polished - it's even thickness, thin. Smooth is not sanded down to the height of the bolsters.

This one is polished

I'd consider this one smooth. Notice the natural swell in the center and polished down to the bolsters.

I agree with this whole heartedly!

I'm going to go out on a limb and estimate that "knobby" out draws "smooth/polished" by a 7.8:1 margin.

When you post photos, please also show the width (thickness) of the typical handle material between the options. I've seen some pretty knives that look great from the side, but when you look at them top down they look like a coke-bottle because the stag is so fat. I realize that having bolsters on both ends tends to constrain that a little, and that it inevitably varies from knife to knife.

But if one option (knobby versus polished) results in fatter handles, that's something people might like to know about, in addition to the appearance.

I don't have these knives in hand, so I'll need to request the top down photos from Buck. Most likely see those Monday.
