You are in Poll 6: Dark Knobby Elk vs White Smooth Elk

If you are just joining, the knife that has been built thus far for the 2018 BF Knife is a 2 Bladed Buck 301, Clip and Sheepsfoot on opposite ends of the knife. Your blade steel is CPM-154 with a tang stamp and the bolsters are NICKEL SILVER. Both blades will have FFG and both will have LONG PULLS. ELK will be the handle material, but this poll is to decide which coloring and texture of elk.

Please note that the sample pictures are of 301s with 3 Blades. That shouldn't impact the voting. The top down photos are a comparison to the burlap micarta 301.

SPECIAL NOTE: It looks like shields are out as on option, because they will be cost prohibitive. Pins will be the poll following this one.

This poll will run for 1 week!

* I think it's fair to ask that if you have no interest in ordering a knife, please do not vote, but please do participate in the discussions!

The dark and knobby isn't nearly as dark and knobby as I'd feared...but I think I still prefer white and smooth (just not as strongly as I'd anticipated). I'm going to hold off on voting for now, though.

Bummer, no polished option. Knobby it is. Smooth was never a contender in my opinion. Buck sure does a nice polished elk. Too bad.

Personally, I would be happy with either option. However, that being said, I cast my vote with the current majority. I feel that the dark and knobby variants will have a lot more character and will undoubtedly smooth over time and with some use and I do intend to put it to use.

I am not too shattered over the concept of no shield. Being a fan of the more traditional shields that I see on older knives and what GEC currently uses, the shields I have seen on Buck's knives have not elicited a lot of excitement from me, especially if it was going to be glued.

Pins are a must for me, I just think it gives me that additional feeling of security, plus they can look rather sharp.

Dark and knobby for me! Looks great and the thickness is perfect.

I agree with Padruig: pins are a must.

Things your significant other can say about your knife but not your.... well you get the joke ;)

I’m also good with either but my bias is toward the more 3 dimensional dark and knobby.

I gotta say this is the first year I hung in the background and let the newer members handle the particulars. I’m puttin’ my faith in you guys. Don’t let me down. There’s only 2 more years before all the dots are ground off the BFC 10 dot tangstamp. That’s my biggest concern, to get a decade of knives with our stamp on it.

Keep up the great work folks. The last knife I expected was a a Buck 301. Not that I have anything against Buck, as I own some of the standards and a couple of odd/discontinued Bucks. I have a 102, 107, 302, 303, 186 titanium (basically a take apart 110 with finger groves in cast titanium scales. Made for just 1 year before buck realized what a mistake it was. ) just didn’t see it happening. Now I’m lookin’ forward to this one as it’ll be unique enough to keep most of the members happy.

Maybe the other manufactures will reconsider they’re minimum orders makin’ the knives more available to the membership and begin to foster a competitive atmosphere. I mean come on we are after all the biggest, best and baddest knife Forum in the world. That commands some clout doesn’t it.
