My reply was not specifically pointed at a Buck option. Perhaps i don't understand the details of crowdfunding sites, however it's a way for people to pre-pay somebody in full with a bit more security than paypalling somebody direct. I've learned that over the years, a small service fee charge to use a tool that assists the organizers/responsible parties to make things easier is a positive thing. If it can be bypassed, great! If the subforum is concerned about somebody fronting the huge bill upfront, well, here's an option around that. I'll crawl back in my hole now. Excelsior!
If you PayPal someone the money and they decide to bail you message PayPal and get your money back. With crowdfunding on the other hand there were enough instances of people running away with money.

I would definitely be willing to use PayPal to pay in advance, I don’t see any reason why that would be a hang up for people as long as they have an account. I might have the days wrong, but I think PayPal protects you for 180 days on a purchase.

I'd be more worried about the scenario where 200 people pay some poor guy who's willing to front the bill, and then the quantity never gets up to the required 250. The poor guy has to refund everybody, one by one, and possibly get hit with a fee on every transaction from Paypal if he has a business account.

Just ran a Buck 501 Squire through the customizer on the Buck site. S30V steel with rivets and a common wood handle, leather case, Blade Forums 2018 engraved on the blade -$93.50. So that definitely comes in under $100 and I am hoping a bulk order gets some discount. Maybe an alternative to the basic wood handle could be offered but those add to the price quickly.

About a year ago there was talk about adding the 301 to the custom shop. Not sure if that's still in the works for the future.

Remember that using our own tang stamp will require additional labor.

Regarding the engraving "Blade Forums 2018".... If we do a poll, I will be voting for sterile blades. A tang stamp is enough.

Summary as I have followed... most seem favorable to the idea of a Buck 301 or 303 with stainless FFG blades; handles TBD. skblades skblades will handle logistics and help facilitate shipping including international. 250 to 500 knives total. Observation: I see more mentions of the 301 than I do the 303.

Lukewarm favor-ability to a 500 series Buck.

Waiting to hear anything from GEC...

Other manufacturer's mentioned fall quickly by the wayside... seeming like a two horse race at this point.

Well you have a point there. I sady don't have a solution for that as of now.

Easy peasy. It has already been mentioned that funding on the Buck is taken care of. Also, SK has distribution channels, and a decent presence over in the Buck sub forum. If the quantity was say, 250 and only 190 pre-sold, SK can handle selling the rest. I'd imagine the group over in the Buck Sub would want a few.

Pros: no worries about having to refund, or who will shoulder the burden
Cons: knife is potentially sold to the general public if the quantity is not sold through the forum

I got some birthday cash, and had a Buck 301 in my cart after all the talk of it on here, but pulled out at the last minute to see what happens with the Forum knife haha.

Perfection. I'm definitely in for 2, if it's FFG and an upgraded stainless. You're making this way too easy.

I would be very happy with a Buck 301 with upgraded stainless steel. Nice size and weight. Even the Dymonwood handles look good to me if it helped keep costs down to be spent on the better steel.

Thanks to everyone who`ll work on making this knife happen, and who has already put in effort. It is much appreciated.

The Buck concept is fun, and I'm still excited to see what GEC could make. In general, if the knife is 3.5 inches or less, and covers that aren't made from animal products, I'm guaranteed in. If it had a straight edged blade that would be an extra bonus. Not that my vote should count for any more than anyone else's. Again, thanks team, this is a great project.

The Buck offer sounds like a very solid good option, which is good to know. It kind of destresses everything, while we wait to see what GEC offer is on the table. Going to a track to watch a 1 horse race doesn't have the same luster as seeing 2 or more.
I couldn't agree more Rookie82 I've been trying to hold off commenting until we hear what's actually available this year. I hope we hear wether GEC is an option or not soon. I think that Buck option is sounding great please don't get me wrong I just thought there would of been a clearer idea of what was what by now. However that's easy for me to say sitting around waiting for someone else to do all the work isn't it. Lol Never mind I'll shut up now.:D

A Buck Stockman with FFG and upgraded stainless is also sounding awesome to me! Made in the USA is also a plus, if that's the case on this option. I'll start saving up my pennies. Scales in green or red or stag also a plus ;)

I'd actually prefer 154-CM, just because I could easily continue to use my traditional sharpening stones. But I'd still go for 20CV.
I would like CPM154 due to ease of field sharpening for most folks. That being said, I carry a DMT Diafold (in my car bag) when I leave the house for anything more than quick errands.
