Did we ever find out if Buck can do a punch (instead of a Spey)? That'd be a dream knife for me (the only thing better would be a Clip +wharnie/punch Whittler ;)).

I think we would be looking at a #15, #44 or #46... if it's the #46 it would need to be ordered soon.

Im going to do something that will surprise many of you.
Im going to say something bordering on logic and commonsense.
May I suggest we poll for next years knife at the same time. Clearly we dont want to miss the GEC bus and it seems in order to get a window seat you need to book early.I think that GEC will do best with the longer time frame.
There 2 directions we are looking at each with varying branches or options.
At this stage SKs Buck has the lead- that is my feeling and not based on any maths.
Question is what has come from Spark on the subject?

Anyway that has left me feeling dizzy so I might get the townsfolk to hoist me aloft and into the nearest alehouse (please check pitchforks and extinguish torches at the door) for some jolly tankard clunking, hearty backpatting and happy murmuring for it seems we are emerging from the darkness.

Although a bit small for my taste, I still like the 14, and think one with a clip & as large a sheepfoot as possible would be awesome. Pair that with unique handles, and that's going to be tough to beat.

However, the Buck options seem to be plenty, and may offer a bit more choices. I'm not even sure what the "favorite" pattern is right now, but having several choices of upgraded stainless, handle material, and fancy packaging make it a real contender.

We also have two swell guys representing the Buck and GEC avenues very well.

I'm not sure how I will vote yet when the time comes, but I'm excited at the prospect of having great options to choose from.

This is just my humble opinion, but I think we could maybe narrow Buck down to a top 2 or 3 and then do a Buck vs GEC poll.

But again, I'm just happy with the overall direction things are going now, and am glad to have any chance to participate in the process.

I think if any polls begin, the "mystery" pattern needs to be left off the table. How can you have a clear vote when one of the options is a big question mark. Stick to the known facts. Lets poll between a GEC #14, and a few different Buck pattern #'s, and get an idea of where the majority is leaning.

As we haven't begun polling yet, let us not forget that Buck makes plenty of nice traditional fixed blade knives as well. Have we ever had a BF Annual Traditional Fixed blade? If Buck is to be given a first ever chance at the BF TK we should include it in the discussion. Here are a few to look over. Buck Knives has offered several different stainless steels in SFO's for various models of these knives over the past years. OH

As much as I'd love a Buck fixie (how cool would a Forum Bowie be?), I think the consensus is that knife laws in many places would preclude a lot of people.

My personal favorite for hunting is the Buck 118 Personal. I have them in 440C, 425MOD, 420HC, 5160, and D2 (not shown). I've used the first three steels on quite a few deer over the years; I like my 440C 118 the best (top one in this picture). The other two special steels (SFO knives in 5160 and D2) are still unused; I'm going to start using them once I wear out the other three! I'm beating the Buck drum just to demonstrate how versatile a cutlery company they are - no, Buck is not a GEC (I think GEC is the very best at what they do - pretty near perfect reproductions of vintage pocketknife patterns). Buck is uniquely Buck, doing what they do best - great working knives that are classics of form and function and doing it at a blue collar price point. OH

A GEC 14 in stag would be outstanding. I would love to hoard 2 or 3. Or, a 14 with Washington Jack style bolsters and end caps would knock me to the ground. Schrade Cut Co I believe did that pattern in a 3 3/8 size and the WJ needs to appear in a smaller (and larger) size.
