I can only speak for myself, but if we are struggling to hit the 250 threshold - the chances of me buying a second knife increase as the price of the knife decreases.

This doesn't mean I want a 3cr13 blade with cardboard handles. But perhaps there's certain models that give us more bang for the buck.

I for one would actually prefer a stockman with just the clip/sheepfoot - especially if it lowers the cost by a decent amount.

I would prefer 2 blade, too.

I think you make some excellent points. There have certainly been past forum knives that have caught my eye and have not been GEC made but they occurred before my time here. Though I have been vocal in my support for GEC here, I have not even questioned whether or not I would buy whatever is decided upon. I feel as a contributing member of "The Porch" (I hope), it is almost a duty and most definitely an honor to take part in this process, all the way up to when it comes time to fork over the cash.
I think you have done just fine contributing to The Porch Dylan :D:thumbsup: This is my first time through this Traditional Forum knife process and I almost feel obligated to buy like 50 knives regardless of manufacturer, model or price LoL o_O However I am only going to buy 3... all pre-paid if necessary

I feel like I must point out that there is no obligation to ever buy a forum knife (because it always seems like there are folks who get upset at the suggestion). Participating here doesn't mean that you personally have an obligation to buy a knife you don't want.

That said, I always see it as a privilege to buy a knife you helped shape and bring into production, as well as a privilege to buy a physical representation of your connection to the porch community. Which is why I am always in. Not an obligation, an opportunity.

And I am impressed with how many people would rather take the chance on a GEC we have no way of ordering over a Buck we can make happen for sure. But I am biased, very biased.

Firstly... I was more or less referring to how much time I have spent following this thread, it has occupied so much of my last few weeks that I feel I deserve to get myself a knife out of it LoL :D:thumbsup: Not so much that I feel "obligated" to the forum to have to buy one.;)

Secondly... LoL

What about something like amboyna burl? I'm yet to see a bad piece of that.
Amboyna burl was also an option I'd love to see. I once saw a youtube video on a Robert Klaus with amboyna that looks very similar to a Buck and have been on the lookout for this knife ever since.

I voted, but am curious to know if Buck would make the 301 as a "Texas Jack" ie. a two-blade Jack on the same frame. Clip and sheepfoot blades maybe?
In the usual course of events, it's easier for most cutleries to do a two-blade Jack, hence less costly.

With this as a Jack design, it would just be an elimination of the Spey and the corresponding spring. This seems like a fairly easy change.

With this being the first iteration of the pattern for Buck, I wonder how the numerical designation is decided?

I am curious if it would be possible to have them on opposing ends. I do not think so, since the sheepsfoot nick is cut for a Jack orientation, and they may not have the tooling for a nick on the opposite side of the sheepsfoot...

Robert Klaas I'm guessing? That would be their Monolith (series? Not sure if there are multiple ones); they still produce them in snakewood amongst other things; maybe you can do a custom order from them. You may also want to take a look at the böker 1674 series. Amboyna burl handles, 440C blades, lots of traditional patterns ;)

Yes that's it, the Klaas Monolith. I found other woods but never the Amboyna. I'll look at the Boker. Thanks!

I didn’t see this thread until it reached page 40 or so and I am just now caught up! Now that I’m current with this thread it’s time to check out the first poll.
But before I do that I want to thank sk and everyone else who has put in some work to please this bunch of bickering knife nuts! We can be an overthinking, nit picking, and sometimes straight up crazy bunch, but we all(most at least) mean well. Or to put it nicely we are just really REALLY passionate!
I haven’t been participating on this forum much this year but I can’t wait to see what comes about whether Buck or GEC. As long as we keep things civilized the end result is sure to please.
Now, off to the ballot box!
