2018 GEC Rendezvous and Picnic!

There are a few dubious characters who show up at the Rendezvous and just seem to sit around all day.

And there's always someone around to tell you where to go .

But I was able to pick up some pretty nice knives as well as the 26 in Stag that I got yesterday .
A Queen made Robeson Barlow that I have searched for a deal for 4 years was provided by Augie Augie . Thank you very much John.

An Emerald Green Smooth Bone that I call a Pickle . 1 of only 12 made

A 78 in Turtle Shell Acrylic serial # 70 of 98 made

A #331313 Blood Red Bone was sold to me by Will

The # 26 Stag that I got yesterday .

Had another very nice day talking with various people and buying knives all day and then a nice dinner and conversation at Cross Creek Resort . Very nice day .
The dubious characters pictured above are Old Engineer & Half/Stop Half/Stop .

Very nice, all of them. Any one by itself would be considered a “good day” in my opinion. Congratulations!

Almost forgot to get in on the wounded warrior drawing, fingers crossed. Have fun everyone that’s there.

Hey I might know that guy in the camp chair! I’m not surprised he got there so early.
That look on his face is pain.
Pain from the money burning a hole in his pocket.:D
Hi Jeff !!! I did not get there until about 5:45 A.M. and was able to get Rendezvous Knife # 17 for a friend and the Model # 26 in Stag . By 8:30 A.M. that morning , all the Rendezvous Knives for Thursday and the Stag #26's were gone . Any pain on my face was from Lack of Continuous Sleep that night.

Again , we had a great time at the 2018 Rendezvous and Picnic . I was able to pick up a #46 Whaler with Desert Ironwood covers today . My good friend Half/Stop Half/Stop also bought one before I did and it may appear that I am copying him , but I can not help that he has such good taste in knives . He got a real nice one and I got a nice one , but he decided to buy one before I did . I wonder if I can really turn over pancakes with this big thing . Will post some pictures after we get back home . As I type this , we are sitting in a motel in Southern Indiana and will head home on Monday .

Thanks everyone for all the updates. Reading this is almost like being there, minus the personal interactions and loot. It looks like a fun weekend, and the knives look great. I’d love to make it out there some time, but it’s a long haul from California.

It was another great Rendezvous, and I'm glad I spent some more time there this year. I love to meet and chat with other knife enthusiasts and fellow BladeForums members.

My oldest son and I were there all day Thursday. In the morning, Charlie @waynorth spotted him, and let him know that another BF member (pmek5) sent him a knife to give to a worthy youngster.

So, @pmek5 - thank you very much for your kind generosity, by providing your beautiful knife to Charlie for this occasion. The Schatt & Morgan whittler is wonderful, and has seen a lot of pocket time since Thursday.

Below is a reenactment of Thursday's exchange - as I didn't think to take a photo as it occurred.IMG_20180812_010038.jpg

After much coaxing from both sons, I decided to go back Saturday morning. My younger son got to meet several great folks. Once again, Charlie made a boy's day/year/lifetime by providing his first knife - a beautiful Schrade stockman.

We had to skip the picnic due to a family reunion, but that Schrade was shown off to just about every relative there. He now knows all the blade types by name, the pattern, parts, and even oiled it when we got home.

Charlie - thank you very much for your generosity and time. I know you were bombarded with scores of questions about your knives, but you were so kind and patient - answering all of them, and allowing beautiful parts of your collection to be handled by my boys.

Already looking forward to next year!

I know none of the folks involved, but seeing the above post is what it is all about! Nothing better than seeing the younger generations getting involved. Kudos to Ryan for raising fine children and Charlie for his generosity. I bet they are respectful, well-behaved (most of the time ) kids. Thanks for the best picture, including the knife pictures, that I have seen from the Rendezvous.
