2018 GEC Rendezvous and Picnic!

I'm going to make it back up this year. Think I will also make the picnic this year. Don't know how to find out who is from the forums. Didn't get to talk to many knife people last year. I did get to talk to Charlie but didn't know it was him until days later when Rob posted his video of the picnic. Hope to meet more like minded people this year.
The 72 is my pick up from last year and the 74 is what was with me. The pics are from a park I found there on my way home.

Why a trip it is.
The GEC tour is such an educational thing that it makes you appreciate the fact we have such a tremendous Cutler firm such as GEC.

Meeting everyone there was such a bonus and really made the trip worthwhile- you guys have no excuses- flying from New Zealand to stay with my mate Paul Hilborn- then after a few days both Paul and I took a couple of flights then hired a car to get there..... that was a Major in hours in the sky as well as expenses- but so worth while.

Awesome trip with Awesome people.

If you can make it - try your best to do it, take the time to talk to the people- they are what make it, coming in second the knives are a great bonus.

Duncan, really going to miss you and Paul this year, last year we had a blast!

You are right, the knives are secondary and the best thing about the Rendezvous are the people, getting together with such nice, friendly, knowledgeable knife nuts is the high point of Donna's and my summer, can't wait.

Few pics from previous years,

John you are exactly right! The people really make a trip to a Great Eastern Cutlery Rendezvous a memorable experience! We’re looking forward to seeing you and Donna again! Here is a photo taken during the Saturday picnic of three knife knuts that were in attendance last year! ;):D

Here are a couple of the knives that made their way back home to Tennessee last year! :D
The 38 Special was the 2017 Rendezvous Knife and the 36 was one of the Special Rendezvous knives that GEC built just for the Rendezvous crowd! :D

I will be there late Friday and early Saturday morning. It’s a blast getting to spend time in the factory. I haven’t done the best job at socializing, but I think by the time I get there most people are winding down.
Johnny you better talk to some of us this year! :p You might get the rep that you are unsocial! The winding down doesn’t start until sometime “After Midnight”!:D:thumbsup:

Maybe I’m the one who winds down early haha. My memory fails me on a regular basis and I tend to call people the wrong name, one year everyone I talked to was Charlie... oops.

I'm only a 13 hour drive from Titusville now (instead of 33 hours), but that's still a bit of a hike. I'm hoping I can make it over that way for the Rendezvous eventually, but it won't be this year.

As for identifying other Porch members at the Rendezvous, I did have one idea...

lol you tell him Ron!

Great photos Augie & Ron that bring up some great memories! Thank you my friends- Thank you.
Thanks Duncan! You and Paul will be missed my friend!:D

Have a great time folks :)
Maybe one day Jack! :thumbsup::D

It would be a shame if I didn't go, since it is only 20 minutes away from my house.
That would be a shame! It would be a pleasure to shake your hand and share a few words this year! :) If I lived that close I’d see if Bill would hire me to sweep the floors or maybe I could be a gopher for Christine! Now that would be a great retirement job! ;)

btb01 btb01 Barrett, one year they started out having everyone fill out a stick-on name tag! Those of us that were there waiting for them to open the doors got name tags. After the doors were open the initial frenzy was on and the names tags were but a memory! I also think that some people just wish to make their visit and remain anonymous. I can certainly respect this! The way we view it the knives are the layers but the people and friendships are truly the icing on the cake! :D

I'll be there again, likely Thursday. Not sure if I'll be able to attend the picnic or not.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again, and to meeting some new folks too.

We're taking our vacation the week prior (which, if I get my way, might include Case and Utica:)). However I'm not sure how my knife budget will look by the time I get to Titusville.
Looking forward to seeing you and your son again. If I remember correctly your son was on the receiving end of some of Charlie’s knife generosity! :)

Glad you will be there! All you need to do is ask who is from the forum. ;) More than likely we’ll be some of the ones standing around close by or on the Porch talking and admiring all of our new found goodies! A lot of us will be there for all three days. :D That’s two great knives there! They did have a lot of very nice Stag in the company store last year! :D

It is a chance to meet a few of the members on these Forums . Some of them are really nice guys . My wife and I went last year and had an even better time than we thought we would . Got to trade a few knives with a friend .

And buy a few GEC's after seeing them first , which was a real first for me .
These pictures are some of them that we were able to buy while there .

Getting to talk with like minded people who may very well be as just as big or bigger Knife Knuts than yourself is a real plus . Just imagine talking to somebody for more than 2 minutes about knives without boring them . Radical idea I know . But you can actually do it there .
I am looking forward to it again this year for the second time and I hope to meet a lot of you people there also .
Please have a safe trip getting there .

Harry
Harry my friend that’s a great bunch of knives you have there from your first Rendezvous! The lefty 73 and that gorgeous Crushed Sea Shell 48 that belongs to Nancy look very familiar to me! ;) Just as I’m sure these two 77’s might spark some memories for you! :D

Enjoy yourselves everybody! (taken as read!)

Getting mighty envious here, but it's 6500 kms (4100 miles) from here and I'm aviophobic so no planes no thank you.. But a ship would be great:cool: Albeit bankrupting.. Better set sail now :D

Thanks, Will

That sounds great Ken! This is also our fourth year in row. I’m sure we’ve saw each other but I don’t think we have spoken. I apologize if I’ve just forgotten. I’d like to talk to as many forum members as possible this year. After all we obviously have something in common between all of us or we wouldn’t be going to the rendezvous to start with! :) I think it’s cool to put a face with a user name or even better a real name. :D
