2018 knife resolutions

The only purchases I foresee at this time are a benchmade 535, love the light weight, a benchmade 318/319, have to decide on the blade shape, and a Spyderco delicate with a wharnclif blade. Whatever one I decide to use for the majority of my edc will probably be customized a bit with new scales, etc. , to really make it "mine".

In 2018 I'm gonna buy whichever knives I want , guilt-free. I gagged and hog-tied that little voice in the back of my head that warns me of impractical purchases.

My fate is wrapped in steel.
I like this. The little voice in my head speaks too. I just blew $25K+ (read heavy on the + side) on a new truck and have all the knives I need (I think and for now). I'm going to listen to the little voice, but if I really want something, I'll get it. New guns are going to pretty much be out of the question and you know, that doesn't bother me a bit.

Think I must be gettin' old or old thinking. That said, people tell me that I was born "old". However, I reserve the right for impulse buys.

i plan on at least one new CRK and multiple new to me CRK. would love to find an umfaan and small regular. other than that ho knows

Buy one new plaza cutlery knife before they close their doors.

I plan on getting the 2018 BF Traditional Knife if one comes to fruition, and a G&G Deadlock.

Aside from those two, any new ZTs that catch my eye are always a possibillity.

best

My knife related resolution for 2018 is to only make deliberate purchases, if any. In 2017, I whittled my collection to only three knives total--two folders and one fixed. Thanks to Benchmade releasing my perfect knife in the Bugout, my off work EDC is set in stone. However, I am considering a career change this year, so if that occurs, my work knife might change. The fixed blade could be switched out if something truly catches my fancy. If Spyderco makes a Salt knife I really like that is a possible addition. I'm enjoying only have three knives, and no matter what I do not want to own more than five at the absolute most.

I am selling unused, modern folding knives. I have strictly been carrying a pocket fixed blade and a traditional. I want to reduce my fix/traditional pairs to a case sowbelly stockman/Gossman UNK, GEC 54 moose/CMFTW knives custom, and a case large stockman/Bradford G3. Started the sell off this week.

Well... broke. my resolution when I saw a Case sowbelly in chestnut bone on the exchange. It's discontinued and it's the same price as when I bought mine so... duh.

I agree, ho knows;) Sometimes I feel like that when I drool on knife pics.

1. Avoid buying knives that will be safe-queens. I have two or three and have thought about selling them, but am hopelessly in love and just hang on. Only buy knives that I'll carry and use.

2. Sell off multiple production knives and replace with less high-end or mid-techs. I've started that process, but have grabbed a couple production models along the way as there are some I always wanted to try. Sigh....

Im out......Did not even make it a month. I said I would only buy one a month and so far I am averaging one a week. Slightly better than the acquisition phase I was in last year. Sometimes 4 a week so I feel I am making progress. (Damn Exchange gets me every time.)

To actually commit to a sharpening system, or to learn how to freehand it. (A proper strop for super steels is a MUST by the end of this year) Also to actually carve wood, because my user knives are becoming safe queens because of not being able to carry it to work (which is fine, we have boxcutters that do the job well) and college (which I don’t use as much anymore due to the lack of pizza boxes haha)

I resolve to hold all my cash for the S90V and CF Spyderco PM3 and whichever new Spyderco Military Sprint model gets released. Other than that... no new knives
How do you like the concept of the cpm154/s90v? Because if so, you might need to hold on to you money a little longer haha

Buying at least one or two more Randall's and old EK's. Order at least 1 high end to very high end custom bowie. Buy more knives in General. Last year was a bad year for me, was unemployed for a few months, had part time work and now finally been stable for over 6 months financially. For me, I hope its a year were I have the extra $ to buy what I want and not just put food on the table and a roof above.

So the resolution: learn to be a better knife USER
Definitely with you on that, one of my more minor goals is to improve my cutting skills in the kitchen. I used to cook a lot, wasn’t the best, but I did what I could. Sure improving my skills wouldn’t get me back to cooking, but it will sure make me more useful in the kitchen.

A good resource: the book An Edge in the Kitchen. That's the one I was referring to, has a lot of great material including a chapter on kitchen knife skills.

Well, already purchased what I wanted with my original statement. I shall add to that statement a Gen 5 Hinderer. And maybe a Spyderco in the spring.
