Important Info! 2018 Spyderco Mid-Year Product Guide - LIVE!

Rex 45 = hap40. Iirc there was some difficulty working with hap40. Wondering if this new brand resolves those issues?
It's kind of the same dealio as the natural G-10 knives. USA made were M4, Japanese made were HAP40. Seeing as all the new burnt orange knives are USA made, they went with the Crucible analog of HAP40 -> REX 45

I agree. Just posted a new thread on that point. Blade seems like it may not be as thin behind the edge as the SpydieChef's.

Even though I have a SpydieChef, I'm interested. I wonder most about the difference in steel. I've been staying away from S90V, thinking it might be a challenge to sharpen, but I see a lot of higher end knives with it. The SpydieChef's LC200N is a great all-around steel. Any thoughts on S90V in contrast?

I'll be in for the new Phil Wilson and Smock (?)...curious about steel selection on the Wilson though.

LC200N is high corrosion resistance (rust proof), while I don't think S90V is designed for that. So in a sense it's not a true sequel, but yes the chef vibes are strong. S90V is a better workhorse I think.

January catalog...Yawn
June catalogue...Wow! Blown away. Completely. There’s not much I don’t like (a lot!). There are a few things I probably can’t afford though.

Smock and Kapara are must buys, but I’ve been waiting for them already.

Something tells me if I ever get the Drunken in hand it’ll have to leave in my pocket. I think this is the first time I’ve ever been grateful there’s not a Spyderco dealer near me. ;)

Well done Spyderco. Thank you Tazkristi.

I have to agree. There have been some snoozer catalogues until this one

I’m pretty interested in the Tropen. Looks like an interesting design overall. And for $190 at the dealers it honestly doesn’t sound like that bad of a deal

I'm still definitely in for the Paysan - price be damned, that's my favorite Rassenti design, and the customs are hard to find compared to his other models.

With the new announcements, the Kapara looks damn interesting. We saw it before in the Amsterdam photos, but looking at the specs now, 3.6" with 0.11" thick? Hot damn!

AND I just noticed the Bow River. Designed by Phil Wilson, a knifemaker who's known for working with the craziest hardest steels available, and getting the most out of them.

The Bow River is made from 8Cr13MoV.

Does not compute...

Thanks!

MSRP on the Drunken is $629.95, so MAP should be over $400. It looks nice, but ... .

Yeaaahhhh... That's getting pretty absurd. Can't even be all "But, it's an integral!" on this one. Way, way, way too much better stuff out there at $400.

Maybe Phil decided he'd like to have a collab that sells in higher volume.

It’s a neat looking knife, definitely unique. It’s on my ‘maybe’ list. :D

I’m also grateful to see polished G-10 continuing on. Spyderco’s polished G-10 is amazing. You owe yourself to try it if you haven’t already.

This is one of my favorite releases. It will proabably sell like hot cakes cause I’m picking up at least two.

Highly functional design with a lower end steel at an unbelievably affordable price. Love it.

Yeah they'll be like 30 bucks street price. Get a thin slicey workhorse into the hands of the average user
