Important Info! 2018 Spyderco Mid-Year Product Guide - LIVE!

Was able to preorder the paysan at knifecenter. Been wanting an integral but the Thor series from rike is just too out there. The paysan looks awesome and I am excited for it.

Until I heard it pronounced, I forgot that kapara is an Israeli slang (yes with that spelling). Literally translated it means 'atonement', but it's used as a term of endearment. Don't know if the name was chosen with that in mind, but it does bring a smile to my face thinking someone loves their knife that much:D

There's a new integral coming from Reate that I hope will be my first. It's debuting at Blade this weekend.
I love Spyderco but they have to prove themselves with a high-end integral since the Nirvana was a bomb, IMO.
As Nick Shabazz said in his recent vid, Spyderco needs to earn sales of the Paysan and Drunken because they are high dollar knives and need to be pretty much flawless.

I want to be excited, but as of late it seems that every time I get excited for a Spyderco I end up waiting months upon months, sometimes over a year for it to be released (ATR).

With that said I really really really like a few of these models. The smock is at the top of my list for sure!

These new knives seem like Spyderco had a baby with ZT and I’m not complaining at all!

What’s the Reate model?

Damn that is a huge bummer, me and my wallet are ready for the Kapara right now!
Felt like forever waiting for the Sliverax last year. I'm not sure what order they plan to produce these but I know there are a bunch of others in the works. I hope the Smock or Mantra 3 hit soon but the Kapara is def on my list with the Tropen, Bow river, Waterway, Kopa etc etc etc haha Need all of them really

This is true, but I do wish them the best. They are my favorite company hands down in the knife business. But Sebenza-level knives and pricing are a new product line for them, so they do need to prove their chops here.

The tropen kinda looks like a penguin or a bird when closed. I really like the use of polished g10 and love the spyderco vallotton sub-hilt collabs, but don’t think I will flock to the tropen.

Copypasta from my post on the Spyderco Forums: I'm sure the folks at Spyderco know what they're doing and wouldn't release a knife with such an obvious safety flaw as an exposed sharp blade in the closed position. I have two comments on the compression lock in this design based on my observations-

1. The location of the compression lock tab relative to the flipper means that when closing this knife, one of two things will happen- either you release the compression lock and let the blade swing closed fully, or you keep holding the compression lock and the flipper tab will hit your finger as a sort of "half stop" (this is true on the production sample Amalgam as well). Either way, this means you won't cut yourself in the action of closing the knife.

2. Once the knife IS closed, the heel of the blade that's jutting into the compression lock cutout area appears to have a false edge, like the Spyderco Mamba. If you zoom in on the heel of the blade, you'll see that the edge bevel becomes narrower whereas it is constant thickness everywhere else on the blade. There even appears to be a light reflection there which would make sense if the heel wasn't really sharpened.

I have to agree with this statement. I’ll be very surprised if the production models don’t have something to mitigate finger loss.

Looks like rike knife liked it so much they copied it. Then they deleted the post when called out on it lol

What's the name of the new Paul Alexander design? I couldn't find it in the mid-year or 2018 catalog. Hopefully, they manage to get their compression lock flippers right this year
