Which manufacturer would you prefer make the 2019 Forum Knife?

Not that it matters at this point, but what I recommended was just a write-in poll (which probably wasn't even possible). Then starting at the top of that dealer list to see where the specifics fell. I am sure everyone has a different idea; but those ideas usually suck the life out of a process in due time. For my part, I wouldn't expect Andy to touch such a large order at his current capacity.

Every maker I have spit-balled the idea with so far has mentioned that someone else has already called them - which really makes discussions awkward.

If a write-in option was available, I couldn’t find it.

I do appreciate your willingness to consider representing the forum as a dealer.

In the 70's, 80's, and 90's, the old NKCA used to just announce they were going to be offering a special knife to members only. And every manufacturer was happy to send them a sample of what they wanted to make to represent the club for that year, as well as show off their capabilities, and show appreciation to their fans/collectors. The association would get a dozen or so prospective samples, vote on their favorite, and things would take off from there. I liked that method where all the manufacturers put their best foot forward and fought to earn the chosen design for each year.

I realize times have changed, and there aren't many makers out there to give us such a large variety. And in retrospect, the NKCA did go bankrupt, so maybe it wasn't a good method of handling things. But I did always look forward to seeing all the submitted samples that each company offered.

I didn't vote because I don't really care who the maker is more than what the unique knife that could be made available.

I find it kind of weird that we are interested in who the maker is more so than what the knife should be. Cart before the horse?

Of course, it might just be my "late to the party" perception.

I switched my vote earlier today. Without help from Jack I think GEC is our next best bet! They can get us something that is gonna hit the price point in a package we like.

I'm bummed that Sheffield seems to not be an option anymore. It was the one I was excited about. The percentage of votes has dropped like a rock. Seems like it should be removed from the poll. Any of the others could be OK or not, depending on the pattern. I tried to unvote, but couldn't.

That Mike has run into this is outstandingly uncool.
Do NOT do this. It makes the project well nigh impossible.

At this point, Mike, Spark, Gary, and I are looking at options of what can be offered (Mike mostly). skblades and Buck may be one option if Steve is interested. While I'm concerned about a Sheffield option, there's nothing at this point that says there can't be one.

Once we figure out what can be offered, we will set up poles and forum members can vote on which one. But PLEASE don't rock the boat. This is really hard and people are making it harder. If it gets too hard, it just won't happen at all.

Well, I guess the best thing to do at the moment would be to keep our heads down and hold patience while the proper authorities find us a hassle free way of getting some quality knives. The year just started; no need to rush anything.

Hi All. I've kept myself out of discussion to this point, mostly because I haven't had the time to check things out. When I accepted the challenge last year, time was my friend. Not to go into all the details, but between a new baby, SK, a new business and my regular work, my life has become rather hectic. It was a miracle, and a small army, that helped get this forum knife shipped out to everyone.

I think the process is a blast, and I do not want to see the knife die before all of the dots have been completed, so I'd be willing to throw myself and Buck into the ring. If we start early enough and pace the polls out, I believe it's doable with my schedule. I may not be able to be as involved in the actual discussions as I was this last time, but think that now that we have been through it once, the process might be smoother (wishful thinking?).

My thoughts to make the process "easier" would be to choose a fixed blade model for this year's knife. Take that as you will. The collective can decide if that is a good choice or not. Just a suggestion from my end!

Changed my vote to BUCK.. Steven did an AWESOME job in 18.. Soooo.. Why not repeat and with a Fixed Blade as a WINNER!!!

I can't seem to change the poll options, but for those wanting a fixed blade from a manufacturer not on the list, it might be best to vote for Hess just to give some representation there. It won't make much difference, of course, since this thread has no bearing on the outcome of the forum knife, but it will at least show where early interest lies.

As Frank mentioned in an earlier post it's best to wait until we know what will be available.
At that time either a mod or dealer will start a poll. Too many polls at this point will only confuse things.
Nothing wrong with continuing to respond to this one, as it gauges the communities interest.

I'm totally up for a fixed blade ... but ... I don't like guards. I hate them. Since I'm far in the minority on this subject, I'd probably vote folding just to protect my options. Yes, I know that the knife in my avatar has a guard. It's biggest flaw. :) I have a neck knife I bought from Jason Wilder here on the board. It's really nice in hand and in pocket. O-1 with maple burl handle. Thin and well ground. I don't know that he could manage the volume, but it would be fun to support one of the little guys.

Steven, I’ve been pushin’ for a fixed blade for the last 6 years to no avail. We’re always outnumbered like 7 to 1. One day, maybe even in my lifetime we’ll see a fixed blade annual.
... A fixed blade would be a great way to finish the 10 year run of the tang stamp. Just my .02
Maybe something like my Easler? Obviously out of the price range - just an idea.
