I'm not that jazzed about the idea of a fixed blade, but if that's the chosen course, how about an L.T. Wright Patriot? Nice little knife, decent sheath, reasonably priced, good A2 steel. Some dealers have also been getting orders (not sure if they are really SFOs) in upgraded steels like 3V and these knives are also reasonably priced.

Well I wasn't going to shift from my Sheffield vote (even though the option seems to be kaput), but with SK throwing his hat back in the ring I thought I'd throw some love his way. I know this poll is not official and nothing official is yet in the offing, but I am appreciative of the options.

Vive la forum knife!

I like that one. Maybe we could get it ground from 1/16" stock instead of 1/8".

500 knives from a small or one man shop would be pretty hard to accomplish.

Thats 40+ knives a month for a year.

A guy has to earn a living also!

Really? I love the look of his knives :) If any of the traditional knife makers who are members here could handle the order, I think it'd make for a pretty special knife

Oh, I see your point Jack. Takes me a few sometimes. I agree carbon would be nice but it's my opinion that most here like stainless for these BF annual knives. Either way, carbon or stainless, would suit me.

Sorry Ed, I see what you mean! :) Do you think so, I always figured most of the folks who post here favoured carbon, and haven't most of the forum knives in the past been carbon (though not last year's)? Maybe things have changed (or I'm just wrong!)

I think "most" here are fine with both options.
I think there are a few that just won't buy a stainless knife.

I think the stainless supporters are more vocal about it.

Be nice to have a carbon steel option this year
If Buck is selected, I think they might have 5160 available.

C&C has some SFO's using that steel, at any rate. Come to think of it, that steel might be a C&C exclusive, and we would not be able to use it.

They have it listed on their website and on the tour, the guide talked about it being a regular production steel, so I imagine it would be available.

A Buck fixed blade with a nice carbon steel like 5160 as the next forum knife has me drooling. Buck does a great job on their folders, but their fixed blades are on a whole other level. A Buck 102 or 113 would be reasonably priced, versatile, and should be easily customizable.
