2019 BUCK Forum Knife

I hope you guys didn't go and get me in trouble. I rarely leave the safty of the Buck forum. I went over there, cast my vote and thought I got back here safely and posted the following...

First was a quote from another member and I replied via the second....

---------------------

Since there are two separate dealers for the two top choices (at the moment tied!), why not just split the difference and have two forum knives from two representatives ;-)

--------------------

When I just voted...

I broke the tie from 99 all to 99 - 100 BUCK!

Call it!

------------------------

I'm scared.... I hope I don't get internet beat up or even banned for posting outside our inner circle.... :)

A Buck fixed blade would certainly be the crowning glory on a great decade of Blade Forum traditional club knives. OH

The Vanguard is one if my favorites. I was a little surprised with a fixed blade option in this race. I jumped the gun over there and pressed all the options I want on it :D

Don't worry, there are those, anywhere, that are over zealous and protective of what they perceive their territory. The moderators of that forum, and at times this one, do a great job of keep things balanced and civil.

You did go all in on that, didn't you:eek:?!? I liked your choices!

I was going to post about this but saw I was a day late!

I would love to see a fixed blade forum knife, and Buck is a great choice. I don't have a Vanguard. Used to but sold it and always regretted doing so. I'd love to have a unique one!

BTW, when I voted a few minutes ago, the Vanguard had more votes than the others!

Neck N Neck.. :eek:Heres hoping all yinz Bucksters go vote!!:D 192!!!

GEC’s are nice knives, don’t get me wrong. I’ve tried probably a dozen different patterns. I just can’t get over carbon steel only, and the blade wiggle/wobble that seems to be the “norm” in a lot of the patters I’ve tried. They also “feel” more like show knives than work knives to my hand. I’m down to two and don’t even use them anymore. Just didn’t get the bug at all. They also have a ton of sheepsfoot and wharncliffe blades. I’ll stick with Buck as always. Enough variety to satisfy whatever itch I have, and every task in front of me.

If I may?
I will buy the knife that is democratically chosen by the mob.I voted Buck. Any of the 3 choices look good..
The race is so close between Buck and GEC .Foxys on the run.
Why not seperate them and make a 2019 Buck Forum specific annual knife with the Vanguard on offer?
Leave the Porch to its own devices ..and the GEC which has taken the lead.
Unofficially speaking is the Porch the GEC subforum?
pretty much as its where most GEC related stuff goes on.
Thats a solution but everyone is entitled to vote...as per the guidelines.
Majority rules.
Is this a clash of 2 superpowers?
Seems like it with the amount of us n them posturing and the poll loading by blow ins from this forum who probably never usually go there. Now where did I put that flak jacket?
The immense amount of support both choices have received is positive.
With that in mind I suggest where the GEC 86 is a new version for 2019 and pouncing on it now would give us that premier edition kudos ...this year...the Buck Vanguard is a solid, time tested performer and would make an astounding step into the new decade next year as the BFTK of 2020...could it be done this year ready to ship in 2020?..We have another year to sort it out.
The idea of having both or 2 annual knives detracts from the meaning of it especially as it is unlikely to be the last one ever.
Cheers.

meako, IIRC(and I do suffer from CRS) I think this was tried even before last year and we were told that the Blade Forum Knife was thee 'Blade Forum Knife' and there was not going to be another...
I apologize in advance for any inaccuracy of my statement...and will delete if I'm wrong. Preston

The last couple of years have seen the conversation steer towards "this year could be the last one". There is a lot of work, stress, and behind the scenes headaches that go into bringing this project to life and folks in the past who have organized the endeavor have become burnt out.

That said, this year more than ever could spell the end but we do not know for sure. It simply has to do with the fact that we are on the last dot of the BladeForums tang stamp. What we come up for future renditions, if there are future renditions, remains to be seen.

But no, it isn't set in stone as to whether or not this year's knife will be the last or not. That will be up to the mods, Spark, and other powers that be.

Dylan, I think you are misunderstanding my statement..."and there was not going to be another". I meant that the Buck forum was not going to be allowed to have their own 'forum knife' that the Blade Forum Knife was going to reside in the Traditional and Fixed Blade forum.

As Buck Knife fans we have it pretty good - between the Buck Custom Shop, SK Blades, and C&C we get more SFO choices per year than the total patterns available from a small semi-custom production knife maker such as GEC (with CSC gone as a production company GEC really stands alone in their quality class of knives). Add in the hundreds of variations of vintage and collectable Buck Knives our choices are virtually endless. There is a different type of user mentality between the two groups of knife fans too - most current Buck production knives get used and used hard, although the limited runs get saved for display - most GEC knives are limited runs - they stay in their tubes or on display shelves, only a few get used and most are not used hard - just for soft cutting tasks. Buck eased in last year with the official forum knife because GEC wasn't in a position to offer anything other than a variation of their 14 pattern - Buck Knives and SK Blades showed what they can do (and do well) with a pocketknife and it was a beautiful example that I'm proud to own. I'm sure GEC will do a bang-up job with the new 2019 pocketknife if the vote goes their way (looks like it's heading that way). I don't think a heavy duty fixed blade will sell among a large number of non-Buck brand traditional pocketknife lovers - there is just not enough actual users to make it strong enough to win. OH

Oh, I did indeed misread that, Preston. My apologies.

You raise an interesting point though. It was stated in the polling thread that other forum knives have been done outside of the traditionals sub so I'd be curious what the definitive word on that would be. Seems odd that if the traditionals forum Knife is THE BladeForums forum Knife, then that certainly alienates so many other knife enthusiasts ...

Preston, I'm sitting here trying to fathom why bladeforums would care if "we", the buck forum, got their own knife. 300, you out there? Me, I'd like us to get a really cool 118...
or try to get bcci to make more of a "voted" knife.
