Important Info! 2019 Forum Knife : Poll Schedule / Content

I'm about to order a belt grinder so that I can fix the thick grind on last years forum knife. It's a keeper because of the size, the ideal blade configuration and the decent steel, but it's just too thick behind the edge. Depending on how that goes, I might buy this years knife and regrind it. I've got a couple of beater knives and a Queen that badly needs a regrind to practice on, so hopefully I won't ruin it. Wish me luck. :)

I like the upside Orleans shield better than the rightside up version as well.

Prester John Prester John my understanding is that all GEC shields are pinned except for the Cripple Creek ones, which weren't their own.

i would not purchase a knife with the star shield as it looks like a pentagram and i dont need more devil in my life.

i would buy a cross or fish shield knife.

Looks like a star to me...but overall I think a Diamond shield would match the knife well, elegant and simple.

I like an anchor, but I guess that would cost more, and not likely to get the most votes.

This is off topic, but I have to play "devil's advocate" and be an advocate for the truth - star/pentagram/anygram symbols are used in a variety of spiritual traditions and disciplines, most notably in Northern European Pagan traditions and Christian traditions, which are often actually culturally linked. They are symbols used for a variety of purposes and often included in rituals. That some "satanist" or otherwise dark-oriented mystical traditions use them, too is pretty much happenstance, but akin to eating soup with a spoon because that's what spoons are for. These symbols are used for energetic protection, and the "upside down" orientation has a specific meaning for grounding. To associate the symbol with "devil worship" (which happens so rarely it's laughable) and therefore label it as evil or bad is getting close to making a claim that someone is bad because of the color of his or her skin is different.

Back on topic... To those thinking of buying a belt grinder and regrinding the blade flat - I emphatically support everyone in doing it. I also want to, as someone who has done this, plainly state the difficulty of doing so cleanly in a way that most people would find satisfactory. The amount of money spent on a belt grinder plus blades to practice plus the time and energy spent actually getting it right, you're into a monetary equivalent of a custom if you value your time at a reasonable rate. I hope lots of people do it, I just hope they aren't disappointed. I'm gonna do it, because that's what I do ;)
