Important Info! 2019 Forum Knife : Poll Schedule / Content

My biggest frustration right now is that one of the main complaints that began last year and has carried on into the current one is that GEC would not or could not offer us anything special. Whether that comes from them offering us only a 14 last year because of how late in the schedule it ended up being or because of whatever the current perceptions are, the displeasure was voiced loudly and often.

But now that GEC has offered us something that they have not offered anyone else and will prove to be quite a unique knife, something Bill himself designed on a newly offered pattern, all I am hearing is complaints because it won't be enough like knives they have made in the past.

I don't get it. It just goes to show that you truly can't win in these things, I just hope the parties involved in seeing this to fruition don't take any of it personally. It is going to be a fine knife, one that possibly won't be made ever again.
Well said, Dylan. Better to be silent than to complain. It will be an awesome knife. I may lose some of the polls, but this is mostly fun, except for the handful of complaints. I look forward to the next poll.

It was made apparent very early on that the GEC offering would have a saber ground sheepsfoot blade. Plenty of time for people to change their votes to another knife option. Since GEC won, I assume that the majority are happy with the saber grind...

I voted GEC and was up front that it was in hopes of getting a chance at a different blade. I think all the discussion made it clear that many prefer a different grind but still prefer the GEC over the other choices. Are they happy? Dunno. The Buck 192 does nothing for me and the Fox was a non-starter, so GEC was the only reasonable choice. Am I happy? No. Will I get one? No. Too bad. Perhaps if it wasn't an extra-thick blade I'd cave in, but the combination of extra thick and saber just doesn't fit my needs.

Don't stress, Mike knifeswapper knifeswapper ...
Over 200+ of us voted for the GEC and only a small handful are verbally upset about the saber grind sheepsfoot. I think you are making A LOT of people very happy. We appreciate your efforts and say Thank You. I hope we don't scare you away from future efforts.

For traditional knives, the pickins are pretty slim these days regarding quality makers. I just hope we don't run off the choices we have.....

Or run off the fine dealers who decide to enter the maelstrom, in support of this forum's members.
Exactly, Mike knifeswapper knifeswapper has Volunteered to dedicate a lot of time, effort and work into this Forum Knife and I'm sure most of us greatly appreciate it.
I for one am really looking forward to the saber grind sheepsfoot blade. I have a couple 85's and Northwoods with the saber grind and really like the look and feel of them.

For those of us who are late to the party, what is the process for reserving one of these beauties?

Paying attention to this Forum regularly...voting in the polls and paying for the final choice before delivery. You may not have enough posts to be eligible, despite being around since 2005 but the moderators can decide that one.

Very exciting! Thanks Mr Latham, this is gonna be an awesome piece regardless of how it turn out!

Oh, almost forgot...voted!

Oh no! Is there some kind of membership restriction on who can buy a forum knife? Ive only been on the forum for a couple months, and have sparse posts. Ive been voting in the polls when I see them. Was hoping to get in on one. It would seem a bit odd if non qualifying forumites could vote on something only senior forumites can have. What am I missing?

Taken from the first poll thread https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/2019-traditional-forum-knife-the-first-poll.1642823/:

Who can buy: Any BladeForums member in good standing. That would be one who has been a member for at least 3 months prior to this post and has 30 posts on BF spread over at least that amount of time. (Note: if the posts are all, "nice knife" or similar, they don't count.) The posts need not be in Traditional. They can be in any of the discussion forums. But if they are all in the exchange, then that’s not what we are looking for, either. If you are missing a bit on the qualifying parameters, you can ask for a waiver. We gave a lot of them last year.

International Participants: If you live outside the U.S. and fully plan to purchase a knife, but do not already have a re-shipper service set up; send me ( support@collectorknives.net ) an email with a subject of "International BF Delivery" and body including only your name and country. This will help me start gauging a possible solution for this issue. Going by the current responses, it doesn't appear international interest is significant enough to be any problem whatsoever.

Did not see this until tonight, sent the requested email, although I am at a loss as to why international shipping is an "issue"? I have been buying the Traditional Forum knife since 2010 and shipping to Canada has never previously been considered an issue. I do have a friend who lives close enough to the border to have a US mailbox. I can have it sent there and then reshipped to me, if this becomes necessary.

It is an issue because most sellers break U.S. Fish & Wildlife laws by shipping it with either no knowledge or no regard of said laws. We do not.

the people who are concerned about the sabre grind blade might acknowledge that different knives serve different purposes.

There is a great opportunity to try something new and different. I can think of half a dozen roles this knife will perform admirably. I don’t intend to re-grind it and use it as a slicer!
