By the way, Ironwood is my very favorite wood, but I know how picky a forum knife can be for a lot of folks, and if you are going to go for ironwood you can expect that some people will get something different from what they hope for, imagine, or see in someone else's knife.

We all have 4 days left before the end of this poll. I wish everyone would stop thinking strategically and just vote their top option. You can change in the last couple days, but I for one would love to see what people would vote for if they weren't voting against other options. This isn't a two party system, and you can always change your vote. Vote your conscience/desire now, and you can always get strategic on Wednesday.

I concur! :D

Like any vote/election/poll, less than 10% usually decide the outcome.

That simply means you'll *GET* the knife you deserve.

I'm extremely pleased GEC is making this years knife, so for me, I'll enjoy buying/using one irregardless. :)

I am not arguing against this, but what really would change if done this way? I don't really see the advantage? Is there one?

That may be true, but I also have a 14 Cripple Creek from the last run that has a very light side and a darker side. They are both swirly grained, so that is matched, but with Ironwood it is just hard to get consistency over the course of a large run of large handled knives, I would imagine. Maybe I'm wrong about that.
I do think you are right!

That is a guarantee!

Kitchen knife ironwood.

Here’s something else I found doing some research. If the above link (first post) is correct, ironwood on a user knife will darken considerably over time, losing some of its luster. Again, not a big deal for some, but if this forum knife will be a user for you and you want to keep that luster, you’ll have some hands on maintenance that will require patience and skill.

Ebony and African Black Wood are known to internally combust. May catch a fire in your pocket or burn your hand in use. Use at your own risk.

Also, known to carry beetles that will eat your house.

Looks to be down to two. I only have one knife in Ebony or African Blackwood and one knife in Desert Ironwood. There'll be a second of something. I'll stick with Jobillo and let those who are more passionate for one or the other decide.

I believe it.
It has been my experience that almost every wood (other than Blackwood or Ebony) will turn dark, almost black with daily use.
Here are 2 85's, bought new, at the same time that were a matching pair. They are Cocobolo. They looked exactly the same before I carried the one for about 3 years straight.

So just to be sure I understand this correctly...

The reason a person should not choose ironwood is because it will lose character and turn black over time with use?
And blood wood doesn't turn dark enough LOL!

politics.....

No, just caveat emptor. People who don’t want Blackwood may end up with really dark ironwood. Just know what you are voting for. I like ironwood and I like dark woods as well.

Absolutely. I agree wholeheartedly with understanding the properties of each option. I really like both blackwood and ironwood as well. And will be happy either way.

Understanding what you're voting against may be equally as important though. A person who only wanted a black wood should now be delighted to know that if they use their ironwood (should it win) they will get what they desire in time.
