This sums up my feelings. I have received about a dozen ironwood GEC knives. This is what I expect...I've had three Ironwood knives thus far. As much as I like Ironwood...it is the only option of the three leading choices that gives me reason to wonder if I'm going to get a good example or not. Unless I get to pick one out myself (or have a dealer do it for me), I'm just not inclined to go thereI can already hear the disappointing posts after folks get theirs and it isn't what they hoped. Perhaps that will get drowned out by those who got a nice example...who knows. Just my opinion.
Bottom pic is blurry, but looks good to me! There is variation, but haven't seen one I didn't like. This sums up my feelings. I have received about a dozen ironwood GEC knives. This is what I expect...

I prefer darker and plainer myself. That's why my vote is for AB. If I get dark and plain ironwood, I'll be happy. Lots of different tastes and opinions. The brushed finish that comes with the Desert Ironwood knives does not look great to start with and it will have a few uneven spots. Then as it rubs anything then it gets small polished areas which make the rest of the brushed finish look like poo.
Also, all of the good pictures of Desert Ironwood posted have just the right lighting on them to bring out the lighter streaks. In anything other than ideal lighting the nice contrast will not show up.
I agree with you 100% That’s why I’m sticking with African Blackwood. Less risk of disappointment, fits the knife, and once received, will make the owner happy.cigarrodog - your ironwood example is EXCEPTIONAL, especially photographed so beautifully.

NOT LIKELY that there would be more than 2 (if that many) as beautiful in any pile of knives. You are mesmerizing us with false hope.
If the Ebony voters switch to AB
Gonna be a long 2 more days

I can kind of understand what you are saying in that you do not want to take any chance to get any knife handles that may be kind of BLAH . So which one is there on the Entire List that will meet that criteria ??? I would rather go with one that gives you a Chance of having some character . Different shades of black , although Classy , does not do that for me . But that is why we are voting .I've had three Ironwood knives thus far. Saw this online - one of the rare folders with a sabre grind. Marked WeXL and American Knife and Shear Co.
Notice the neat little anchor stamped in the handle and the discrete bail. Very classy!
