Ironwood will win for a variety of reasons that would fit nicely in GBU. I’ll take either wood to lay this Poll to rest. And to the ones who played games...Sorry, I’m going to love my knife.:)
Yeah, don't like the games.
I am pulling for the black with polished bolsters, but desert ironwood is one of the most beautiful woods available. Won't be unhappy with it.

I'm not sure if one of my previous posts got misinterpreted or not, but I don't think a brown wood "works harder" than black wood. What I was saying was that all the hammers, screwdrivers, files, saws, etc., I have with wood handles all have a brown wood. My father never passed down an ebony handled hammer to me. So I think the ironwood would match my MY purpose for this knife. As long as it's wood, I really don't care which one it is, but I know which one I would prefer. I really love hearing that my opinion and preference are wrong....

I really wouldn't take things so personally. We are all lobbying for our preferences and that means stating our opinions. They are neither right or wrong.

If you felt I was singling you out, I wasn't. I would have directly quoted you if I was. There were a number of folks who shared similar sentiments to yourself and therefore I had a rather burning desire to share my "opinion". In all frankness, you can't go wrong with either wood.

However, Blackwood IS the only choice. (remember, tongue in cheek. Also, this is supposed to be fun)

I will ship you a zip lock bag of Flitz if you don't...;)

As I get all bundled up to go "play" outside, I am thinking of ol Grandpa, and what knife he would have put in his pocket.

He would see that Ironwood knife in the drawer and think, man, what a fancy lookin', I better not take that, I might lose it.

Now, where is Sweetlips, that knife never fails me, with its well worn black handle and bright, shiny Big Bomb shield?

YOU are that Grandpa and the Time is Now! Go African Blackwood!

Here' a couple of Desert Ironwood links to show the variance in grain/quality.

The posted photos are directly from a BF vendor/knifemaker/service provider (in case I goofed the link )
