Just like the ones who purchased it with the intent of flipping it... they didn't have to do that but it was their choice despite what was posted in the original ordering thread... much like the one who "liked" your original post.

We don’t want to set this up just so a flipper can come along and turn a fat profit on the backs of others as has happened in some past years. So this is a “members only” set up. If folks buy the knife and later decide the knife is not for them and want to sell it, we would ask that you sell it on the BF exchange and just charge enough to cover your costs.

I would hate to have one of the very few firms that are willing to work with us towards a forum knife be cut out of the mix because of the few bad eggs. Though our choices seem to get narrower each year, I would still like to have GEC be an option. They make a premium product and it's nice to have such as a forum SFO once in awhile. Otherwise, our options become quite limited indeed.

I have Facebook, though I am rarely on it. Once in awhile, I drop in on some of the knife groups there and I see enough malarkey that I make my exit pretty darn quick. I miss out on stuff but it is the price I pay for maintaining some peace of mind.

Serial numbers matched with buyers is a good idea but I imagine it would bring a bunch more headache to the organizers as people request specific numbers.

It is obvious those words mean nothing to a few. Either it has to be closed down to contributing members of this sub forum only or we have to turn a blind eye to the few that choose to capitalize. I dont see a middle ground solution.

For the record, I prefer to trade forum knives I dont want to keep. Seems like a best of both worlds, knife for a knife and usually goes to someone who really wants it.
 
Boru13 Boru13 I agree, but some people have a funny way of interpreting my costs ;) I'd like to say that I've seen some Forum Knives on the Exchange at very reasonable prices and I know that some have been given away so not all decency has gone :D:thumbsup:

As for paying 500+ for one (and collecting the profits) it's ludicrous as it's not that rare:D 500 made is hardly tiny numbers, I have a GEC that's one of 5 (and I live in Europe) so that must mean it's worth 50k :eek::D. I would bar those people who Flip their FK at such a price from buying again, and if the buyer is also on this Forum, same treatment.
 
We had around 350 individuals purchase this years forum knife. I think a handful of flippers is to be expected. Unfortunately, not everyone plays by the rules. We are doing whatever we can reasonably do to make sure they can't participate in the future, but that's pretty much all we can do.
All in all I feel the process worked pretty well.
We appreciate the flipper info we've received from our members, and will follow up on any lead.
 
Since everyone has an opinion, here's mine:
If you purchase a forum knife and decide to sell it, it must be posted on the BF exchange for a minimum of 1 week and for no more than 125% of the price the knife sold for at the time of distribution..... After meeting these conditions you can sell the knife wherever you want and for how much you want....
If you are found to be in violation of this agreement you will be banned from the BF exchange for 1 year and permanently banned from future purchases of Forum Knives...
 
I got 2 PMs last weekend from the same new member with 36 posts who "really, really" wanted one of this year's knives.
My suspicion was that he was a flipper and I didn't respond.
I'm not sure why I was selected for this, and at the time I wondered how many others got a similar message.
 
Speaking of the flipping/gouging going on, I will say that I missed this year's Forum Knife, and regretted it pretty heavily. I'd resigned myself to letting the heat die down a bit so I could try to get one on the Exchange for at least a somewhat fair price. Then, the clouds parted, and a friend* here sold me his second knife for what he paid. Couldn't have started 2020 off any better. The friends we make here are something else, I tell you what. I can also tell you that this knife is going absolutely nowhere!

*He knows who he is, and knows I'm grateful!!

something I wouldn't have thought of, because I just don't think that way, but what if the seller "bought" his own knife at that inflated price, in order to create the impression that they are selling for that much... re-list it, and get the desperation buyers to go for it... I honestly cannot see ANYONE buying a current production GEC for $500... unless they are goaded into it by a false sense of scarcity...
