Another Tidioute Longpull and Barehead, this time Spear.

Northfield is clearly the preferred option but I don't actually think there would be a lot to choose between them. I wouldn't really mind either. It's the scales that are key to me, let's see ;)

I voted Northfield.

More often than not, I actually prefer Tidioute to Northfield. That said, I think some of the "best" GEC knives I have are Northfields. Like this #85:

And this #77:

And these #15's:

One thing I've noticed about my favorite Northfields is that they all have satin-finished blades, so I'm glad that's something we'll get to vote on. I'm hoping for Northfield trim with a satin blade, matchstriker long pull, sawcut bone, no end cap. I'm not sure about shield choice.

knifeswapper knifeswapper Mike, do you know if sawcut bone will be a possibility? I know GEC has used it several times before, but wasn't sure if it counted as "any slab GEC currently utilizes." Thanks!

I like the sawcut bone idea Barrett

I like the sawcut bone idea Barrett

I think it could make our knife a little extra special. Obviously GEC uses sawcut bone from time to time, but not nearly as often as they do jigged bone, or even smooth bone (I think). Also, while GEC’s jigging can be hit or miss, I don’t think I’ve ever heard a complaint about their sawcut bone.

Wow Northfield is winning by a landslide. I am excluding myself from votes atm as really there is currently a low probability of me buying one but would probably vote with the majority on this one myself.

I would not vote for saw cut bone, saw cut was rarely if ever used on a vintage jack, it was used on Barlows probably because saw cut was cheap and quick to make, most Barlows were the low end knife in a manufacturers line, made cheap and tough to be used hard.

So you're saying it would be unique, affordable and good for people that actually want to use the BF knife ;):D I'll be honest... I have only purchased (2) knives that were brand new since I've been a Knife Knut (last years BF knife and a burled birch Marttiini folder). In fact, I probably have bought less than 10 knives that were made after 1980... so with that said, this BF knife will be my first GEC knife  So I have to say that no matter how the polls go, I'm very excited to be getting this knife this year :D

That’s a fair point, and I generally have to defer to those of you who are more knowledgeable about these things when it come to historical/traditional accuracy. That said, GEC has used sawcut bone on a #77 jack before, and if you ask me it looks pretty dang good!

In fact, looking at that knife, I think I might change my ideal poll results to Northfield, satin blade, matchstriker pull, sawcut bone with an end cap. I just like the way that sawcut looks with the end cap. Still not sure about which shield.

How old does a knife have to be to be considered vintage? Here is a 1940 - 1964 Case Red Saw Cut Bone Barlow. Yes, it's a Barlow but it certainly looks good to me. I think saw cut bone would make this years knife unique.

Looks cool, though. ;)

Something that would look awesome, but be a bit of an oddball from a historical standpoint, would be sawcut bone with a beveled UN-X-LD endcap; the bevels of the bone and the cap could then line up. And yes, I used a semi-colon

How about no shield. Just a thought.
