2019 GEC 86 Oil Field Jack and Forum Knife Picture Thread

What kind of a pull are you seeing on your 86's?

I agree with HEMI49 and Mayonardo. I'm not sure how to assign an objective number, but it feels perfect to me, smooth as a pre-64 Winchester and the tension is just right.

It's a great knife that I think is right up your alley, knowing how much you like tools like the Kephart--I follow that thread too. The weather up your way is a bit nasty, a perfect day for a visit to SMKW. I suspect if you get it in hand you might come home with it, wrench shield or not.

That bloodwood is a knockout.

The Bloodwood is appealing. Weather is a bit rainy today and YES a very good day to head to the knife store! I am planning a trip up that way this coming week and before Thanksgiving.

I agree with you Mayonardo Mayonardo . I certainly can understand why some would not like the wrench shield, but, to me, it is perfect for what GEC intended this knife to be. They are heavy to carry, but what a beautiful pattern!

Wonderful fit and finish and excellent action. The pull is moderate as others have stated. I like the fact that my example is a few shades lighter than the usual oily creek bone.

I have a lot of arbitrary limits on my collecting to keep it under some level of control. One of the rules is no two blade knives. Well, I had to break that rule in this case, and I am glad I did. I just hope this purchase does not open another flood gate!

I have arbitrary rules as well although I don’t always follow them. I like to and three bladed night it was but I do have a toothpick I really like. So I guess the basic rule is if I really like it then I will consider buying it. Any overflow gets results anyway so it’s all good.

Do we know all the Northfield covers yet? I saw Autumn Gold Bone, but wondering what wood, if any, will be used.
Edit: NVM, after some searching it looks like a wood will not be an option :(

Very classic looking, reminds me of a cowboy knife in a lot of regards.

Right On ! My JSR Sports and More invoice just popped up on my email. My SFO #86 Chocolate almond peach-seed jigged bone should be hear soon. So much for the Charlie #86 Black Jack. I am so busted. The Charlie Black jack was a notification knife , the #86 Chocolate is a done deal. I will try to buy more #86 knives next month. I am only buying the camel bone #62 Easy Congress. I will be buying knife Club memberships and saving my bones for 2020 GEC Trapper knives. No CASE XX , S&M , Boker , or custom order fixed blade knives until after the GEC Trapper Run ! "GEC knife collecting is war !"

Leslie, you know Jacks and Barlows should be 2 blade:D:D:D, just trying to help that gate open:D

In my pull rating system, it comes in as just right. Seriously. Very much in there with the 29s and 92s. Firm but not hard. Easy on the nails but with plenty of tension. Good snap into half stops, open and close. I’m hoping Great Eastern Cutlery keeps their future builds just like these.
Proof again, we’re all different. Personally I find the 92’s and 29’s a hair light and preferred the stronger 93’s and 44’s! I’m wondering now if GEC purposely mixes it up run-to-run to keep us all on the hook. Here’s hoping for a stronger pull on the forum variant.

Just in yesterday.
I believe these are the best effort by GEC yet. Flawless fit, finish and the walk and talk is perfect for me. Along the fact they didn't need a joint flushing to be smooth.
GEC out did themselves on this run.

It is a bit more hefty than I thought it would be but that is good imo.

My wife thought it was a mini kukri with that recurve but I assured her it was just a plain old jack knife.

 ONE gate maybe ;)

Jacks by definition should be 2 blade, but Barlows? Uh uh FAR better in singles:D Double blade it becomes Barlow Jack. And you know what they say about Jacks being of all trades but master of none...;):D

Been thinking about running over to KSF (in person) and looking at their 86. :D They are like 10 minutes from my house.

If you are 10 minutes from KnivesShipFree I envy you, would be their a few times a week playing with knives..also scoring every Northwoods in person!
