2019 GEC 86 Oil Field Jack and Forum Knife Picture Thread

I am excited for the bladeforums knife, but I'll pass on the rest due to them all being 2 blade. Should be some big beautiful knives, though. I wonder if this would be one for Northwoods to get in on...
That never crossed my mind. I bet there will be a #92 or an #86 Northwoods in single blade.

Although I wasn't quick enough, I'm very happy to see that the oil sucker rod wood and Tortoise Shell Acrylic reserves on @knifeswapper filled up very quickly. This will hopefully cue GEC to keep using these materials, maybe even more often. I think this run has some great handle options.

And like Jack Lam (I forget his bf username) said on Facebook, maybe they'll even make a glitter gold #86 for next year's Rendezvous!

It's from a rod used to suck oil out of wells. Probably Ash.

I really do not think you will have any problems getting Tortoise Acrylic.

I didn't say I would. I think Mike is doing a great job of making sure he has a good reservation and notification system, and I really appreciate that. I, however, am not one who thinks that once his reservations are closed you can't get a certain knife. There are several good dealers.

I don't like the color of natural canvas micarta , but I love the texture. My #93 natural canvas micarta recently came in the mail. Before cleaning and oiling it , I popped it 4/5 times with Navy Blue leather dye. I own a #93 midnight blue canvas micarta knife now ! I pre-ordered the oily creek bone #86 and the #92 camel bone. I hope there will be some NOS natural canvas micarta knives on the dealer sights , I need some more midnight blue canvas micarta knives. 2019 is a great knife year for me.
Any chance of showing a pic? It would be great to see how it turned out.

Interestingly enough, the order and speed of Mike's reserves usually give a pretty solid indication of what the preferred materials are from any given run. It might not be a frenzy to get a tortoise shell, per se, but usually the tortoise shell doesn't get a lot of love...so to see it fill up quickly compared to the others is an interesting sign. That interest coupled with a shorter run would create a bit more frenzy but I'm not sure what the production numbers are for the 86's (will find out). Assuming the run is in the 400-500 range per material, everything should be available without a lot of problems.

Ok. In retrospect, you are quick enough then since you will tag one with another awesome dealer.

See I thought that Mike's reserve on these were around for a bit. Natural Canvas I think has run its course for many since we have seen a lot of it. The Tortoise for sure is not a choice for so many. I figured those two would be around and even now they are on red but not closed; Standby. The surprise for me was the oil creek. I thought that would surely be "closed." I'm just referring to Mike's system and not the other awesome dealers. You are right that Mike is the bellwether and I am surprised that everything did not go more quickly since so much positive talk on this pattern and this pattern is the forum pattern.

"Tidioute Natural Canvas Micarta Sure Reserved"

This is what my email said. I don't trust myself to quote it accurately.

Whatever it is, that's what I reserved.
Gotcha. Ha ha! The email is what counts! Thanks for the reply.

tortoise shell acrylic reserved! its gonna be my first acrylic GEC. ill try to buy the tidioute sucker rod wood too
HAGD

I just hope the jigging shown in the pre-production pic is what they’re going to use. Should look real good on the antique autumn bone.

I wondered about that too. That pic reminds me of a more random peachseed type jigging.

A few things that count against it:
  1. It's a bigger knife than some folks care to carry regularly (bigger than the 77 but not by much).
  2. Aside from the forum knife, it is only being offered in a 2 blade configuration (off-putting to many).
  3. Lack of exciting cover options.
Personally, the first two things don't bother me one bit but the third item tempers my enthusiasm somewhat.

I'm in for couple but a little disappointed that Ebony or Blackwood is not an option, really goes with a traditional large jack. At least it's on the forum knife.

I couldn't agree more! I would guess that a black wood option was taken off the table due to the forum knife being dressed up in it. That said, Barry's Bloodwood and the Stag are going to be quite nice, I think.
