2019 GEC 86 Oil Field Jack and Forum Knife Picture Thread

View attachment 1197194

Since I don’t have my black Forum Knife yet, I’ll post a photo of my black 74. Some people were concerned about the Forum Knife having brass hardware with black wood, but I am okay with it. To me, that is one of those things you don’t even notice until someone points it out to you. (Then you can’t stop thinking about it. Similarly, I never noticed off center blades or bone jigging that is too patterned until I began hanging out on the Porch!)

Onearmbladenut Onearmbladenut , you really have some interesting ideas and a real passion for GEC knives. I hope they use a few of your suggestions. Wouldn’t it be great for you to own a knife that you influenced in some way?

I think brass and black look great together. In fact I wouldn't mind seeing one like yours with brass bolsters in the future.

I'm not understanding the guitar shield reference? How its relevant to oily creek bone either?

Personally if it had a guitar shield I'd probably be out.
I asked GEC to make a Rock n Rock knife this year that celebrates 65 years of the first Rock N Roll album . Oily Creek bone , because the 50's Rockers oiled their hair and the guitar is the symbol of Rock N Rock. 4/12/2019 was 65 years for "Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley and his Comets. #86 Oil Field Jack in Oily Creek bone with guitar shield and "Rock N Roll 65 Years" etching on the blade. I pitched this idea on FB messenger in April 2019. I got a thumbs up. Then I spotted the #93 Oily Creek bone schedule with no announced shield , at that time. I thought it was going to happen then. I had pestered GEC to make an oily creek bone knife for six months at that time. I was thankful regardless. I never stopped pitching an #86 single blade oily creek bone knife with guitar shield & "ROCK N ROLL 65 YEARS" etching. I think this is a great idea that would add value to the knife in many years to come. I send FB messages and I write letters to Bill Howard. I bought 43 GEC knives since June 2018. I tell GEC about the knives I bought , what I like , and what I hate . Two different model Oily Creek bone knives in 2019 , I think that is wonderful. I begged GEC for a #97 Allegheny Oily Creek bone knife. I believe GEC would of sold out of every one. That color is hot. I begged GEC for Dark Blue camel bone on the #92 camel bone knife too.

Any chance of showing a pic? It would be great to see how it turned out.
I have tried many times to post pictures on BF with no success. I need to go to You-tube and maybe I can learn something. That midnight blue canvas micarta #93 knife looks almost black with canvas streaks trying to pop out. I have a #43 "S" Frontier bone knife that is super ugly. I love it and I use it like crazy. I want to pop some black leather dye on it to give it an oily creek bone look to it. I use Q-tips to dye my knives. I am going to spot dye it a little at a time. It will come out fine. I'll stick the Q-tip in the black dye. Lay the dyed Q-tip on my bench. I'll take a fresh Q-tip and barely apply some dye on that one. Then I will barely color the knife and take my time to achieve to right look. It will be fun. I have a 2 color Frontier Bone knife and I will end up with a 3 color Frontier bone knife. Using it more will help too.

Personally, this 'rock and roll commemorative' knife sounds like something the Bradford Exchange would put out. Definitely not something I would be interested in.

It's national guacamole day today. How about a green avocado colored bone with chips shield?

Didn't the old school rockers and greasers use switchblades and straight razors for their nefarious activities....i'm thinkin' more fonzie than potsie .
Bill Haley was a West Virginia coal miner....the earliest song Ive got by him is Yodel your Blues Away ..recorded 1949...it rocks along alright but too yodelly for RnR...
I think yodelling was a coal mine thing...perhaps resulting from coughing up black phlegm and lung chunks.

Am I the only one that freaked out when they saw the title of this thread and thought they missed the boat on the forum knife order?

Didn't mean to alarm you :) I just wanted to be clear in the title that this thread is for photos of the 86 and forum knife and not a place for forum knife questions, concerns, complaints, etc.

Can you upload your pictures into your computer???

They did update the production schedule to show the shields, etc. Looks like they are going with the cloud shield again on the tortoise shell. Not that it doesn't look great, but I was hoping with such a symmetrical pattern, that is really open to any number of shields, it would have been considered for something a little different :)
Now the wrench shield sounds pretty neat though
