2019 GEC 86 Oil Field Jack and Forum Knife Picture Thread

I've been reading posts here about how big this knife is...and why some won't like it because of its size....
In reality, its not all that big. It has pretty much the same clip blade as the GEC 54 pattern, but the 54 has a longer frame. Its only slightly larger than a TL-29, and is about the same size as a GEC 73 Scout or a F&F Bullnose.

I think it is considered to be a large knife due to how it compares to one of GEC's most popular offerings, the #15. If folks consider knives in the 3 1/2"-3 3/4" range to be an ideal size for carry with the slimness that comes from single blade offerings, the majority of the 86s are going to be quite hefty and bulky by comparison.

I think this is true and that is especially true of a two blade traditional this size. The forum knife will be much thinner and easier to carry if it matters. I personally prefer the two blade models, but I have both. One of my favorite GEC frames is the 42 frame which is larger.

I didn't think the forum knife was going to look that good. I was picturing the blade being more Northwoods style, but its clean looking instead. Nice looking blade.

First thought: the stag looks great!
Immediately followed by second thought: if its chunky stag an already largish pocket knife was going to get even more largisher.
On this one I think I'd want relatively slim stag.
I'm very happy with the sucker rod wood I have. I'm not sure I want another one, but I keep thinking how good the 86 would look in Osage orange

Looking for a Stag #86! Hope I find one I like!!:)
Some of those are pretty interesting!!
I asked my GEC dealer to cherry pick me out a "popcorn" or the widest stag #86 available. I got these two leather thingies , called "GEC sheaths". Too big in the pocket , carry on the hip. I love big GEC knives. Having one arm , I do like a big folder I can easily hold between my knees. Even some of the small GEC knives work well for me. If all else fails , I will use my feet and a CASE XX/GEC blade to open my gator snap folders.

Have you ever cut yourself doing that? Like blade doesn't open all the way and handle or blade slips?

Hey all! :D ... I'm super new to the page, but I was wondering how one can buy one of these bladeforum 86's when they come out? :) or are they already sold out? ... sorry for being a newb :)

They are sold out and your best option is to watch the exchange here after they are released. You never know, somebody might volunteer one to you if they see your post.

Thank you sir! :D ... How does it work in general (for the next releases) - is there a special place to keep an eye out or how does it work? :)
