2019 GEC 92 Eureka Jack

Rusty1 Rusty1 Thanks for your thoughts. I still like the Calico over what you showed because in the examples I've seen here, the jigging goes right into both bolsters, always a plus point rather than flat sanded out areas to accommodate the bolster.

I understand that GEC are trying to vary the jigging on their bone just so it does not become repetitive. Some of the jigging or gouged patterns of late has at least to me become uninteresting because of the patterns. Three lines one way, three lines another and so forth (hiccuping). compared to the jigging on Travman's pic attached (hope you don't mind Travman) a little more thought has gone into the pattern where on the Calico bone, it's just somewhat blah! Only my opinion here, just think that the machine used for jigging or gouging the bone could yield some more thoughtful designs.

I hear you. That one has my favorite GEC jigging of all time. It has more randomness than anything they have done in years. Also, it has a nice deep and rounded style that we don’t see anymore.

With that being said, I’m totally happy with my new Calico jigged version. That is about as random as we are going to get now.

I always curse hotdog shields . The GEC production photos of this knife turned me off. I tried to pre-order this knife , but the pre-orders were full. After seeing the photos , I was happy I missed out. Then I spotted some online photos on groups and different forums. I surf GEC dealers 4 to 5 times daily 24/7. Wednesday, I missed a #92 Calico posted on TSA. Thursday, TSA posted two more. I could of bought both , but why be a jerk. I have PCMatic and now I am blocked from TSA. I can't check my tracking. Boy did I get this GEC#92 by the skin of my teeth. After my knife arrives , I will contact TSA to ask them to beef up the security software. I love TSA knives. I won a Trestle Pine 150 year old river mud wood knife from them last year. I'll go to the library to buy more knives from TSA , if I have to. I am going to love this GEC#92 calico bone knife. The #92 Camel bone is my next GEC pre-order.

Onearmbladenut Onearmbladenut , congratulations on getting one of the last TSA 92’s. I hope it is a good one.

I’ve never understood the dislike of the hotdog shield. It is just a variation of the bar shield. Is it because it is so common or that it doesn’t look nice? There is a group within the Facebook groups that always mention their dislike of the hotdog shield.

A long shield definitely works well on a long pattern like this 92 pattern.

of my three, two of the coping blades were off centered. And of the two elderberry jigged bones, this one had flaws on the bone with chips near the pins on both slabs with off centered coping blade. That being said after fiddling with the knife for about 10 minutes, the pull is rather light but will make a nice one for the pocket. Both the main spear and coping have light pulls. The blade does protrude a little bit so the kick may need to be filed down a little. Loving that spear tho, as it is the only one so far in the edc box. It has a slightly different profile than some of the other spears offered by GEC. The 92 has been often recommended to me but due to its extreme popularity, it is a pattern that often eluded me. Also it is a bit outside my norms for symmetric pattern handles this being asymmetric like the 48. I look forward to the adventures we will have and deciding if the knife needs to go on a diet ;):rolleyes:

My view entirely, a long slender pattern like this is best suited to a bar type shield or no shield. Other types look flared or awkward to my eye ;)

Looks good in the pic...might not be able to cope very well with that diet, though. ;):D
FWIW, the coping blade in my Elderberry is a bit toward the pile side. Same with the one my brother got. Both have adequate daylight between the blade and liner. At least it's off toward the side that gives it room to flex a bit when opening without hitting the inner liner.

I received my 92 Calico today, little darker than previous Calico I've seen but definitely better than the production pics. I know a lot are negative with the color and jig, I would prefer the color to be a little lighter but the color and jig work is really not the bad in person. I'm pleased that I have one for my collection and the F&F and action is similar to all the other posts. After seeing some of the Camel bone pics, if I can only get to choose a nice rich color that would be great.

Mine came in super early today. My #92 Calico is the darkest one I have seen yet. I took some Seal synthetic , a gun patch , and I rubbed it super hard. The patch come out black. So I grab a new patch and tried in again. It matched yours but I wanted a lighter bone. I used a Q-tip and some alcohol to lightly apply on the tip jigging an sides. I am going to rub some stinky Balistol synthetic on it next. A little at a time until it is perfect for my taste.

Thanks for the tips, since it’s in the safe for now I’ll leave it but if I decide to carry it would look nicer lighter. Greg turned up a new website so if you have a saved bookmark it will fail so type it in.

Just waiting for a Camel Bone. I'm a fan of this pattern, I've been carrying the OD Micarta for the past two weeks. Fit and finish on the Calico is outstanding. The elderberry is a bit redder than others I've seen but I like it. Not sure if I'll try for a stag or not - I don't generally like stag and I have a feeling there will be something awesome after the 86 run.

I just spotted another #92 SFO Eureka Jack TSA Antique Calico bone knife on the new web-sight. The old web-sight in not safe ! Dang , sold out again. Keep checking every day. Don't give up ! Every 2 or 3 days two Calico #92 knives go up for sale.

While they are not on Case Bose level they are very very nice. Very happy with mine. A worthy pair for sure!

The only complaint I have with the Case/Bose Eureka, and this goes for my Case/Bose cattle knife too, is that the nail nicks on the main & secondary blades are crowded very close together. They're almost on top of each other. Putting the nail nicks on opposing sides would've been better IMO. Otherwise, the f&f, snap & materials on the Case/Bose knives are top notch.

I’m not trying to start anything here. Just wondering. Any instances of blade rap on that main blade? I’m probably holding off for the stag on this run.

wow, fancy schmancy with the gif! Great post Travis!

very nice! I’ve always wanted to get into lost wax / wax carving. My brother has done a good bit of it. Would you mind PMing me a recommendation for where/how to start learning?
