I wouldn't be opposed to another offering on the buck side. The 212, the 112, the 113, the 118. But someone would not like those choices also, so Vanguard it is for now. Honestly wouldn't hurt my feelings to change it, though probably impossible this far mid stream. We just figured the Vanguard has so many options for customization that it would be a good choice. Also has a very long and old history at Buck.

My very first fixed blade that I bought as a teenager was a 119. I can understand the nostalgia attached to many of the Buck classics.

That being said, I wouldn't change the 192 as an option. It is an attractive knife in a useful size and some of the folks here have posted some pretty excellent pictures of everything that has been done with it in terms of configuration and options. Even though I am somewhat firmly in the GEC camp, I would be quite pleased to have the Vanguard as our forum knife as well.

“You can’t always get what you want.” I’m sure that those who prefer the Vanguard will be happy. I say good for them. I just have zero need for a knife that Buck describes as “made for field work and big game hunting.” Still...I’m certain that for 99% of the daily cutting tasks that most of us perform, the Vanguard will excel. As for me, I hear the Siren’s call of a unique 86 with an eminenently usable sheepsfoot blade, a sexy swedge, turned out in black Ebony, bare headed. Worthy of a tenth anniversary BFs Traditional Choice.

The Buck 192 wasn't what I would have hoped for myself, I am hunting for a smaller fixed, but it is still small enough to suit me and my wants and one I honestly had over looked so I like the idea of the 192 and wouldn't really want to change it at this point. I would say regardless of what wins out maybe next year before we get a bunch of options and vendors a vote of Fixed vs Folder for the first official poll.

It has been neck and neck. How long, do you think, until folks from either side start harassing the Fox voters to change their vote? :D
what if the handful of fox folks convince the buck voters this buck knife has been done before and ain't special enough, and to change their votes? is there enough gec single blade sheepfoot fan voters left to stop it?:D

goofing aside I kinda like all three. fox growing on me....still a buck voter but the pic of the gec looks better than I had in my mind. still early.......

Yeah, I expect the Fox to come from behind, surprise everyone and win the poll... o_O :D

5160 sounds great  No need for the blade to be blued, most of us here know how to look after our knives ;) Ram's horn would be spectacular

I changed my vote to the Buck in favor of something like this. I’m guessing the Buck section of the site will want a supersteel of sorts but the 5160 fits the Traditional purpose of the knife.

You know, looking at the numbers - and considering that we have TWO dealers ready to handle this - why the heck NOT have both a fixed blade from Buck AND a folder from GEC?

Everyone (except the handful of Fox fans) would be happy. There looks to be enough interest to meet minimum order quantities, and some people I am sure would want both.

What do you think, knarfeng knarfeng ? Seriously - there are some people who utterly can't use or don't want a fixed blade knife no matter how great it is, and there are others who are tired of GEC, or don't want 1095. If we go with a "there can be only one" this year, there will be a lot more disappointed people than usual. If we go with BOTH, we'll have a lot of happy people (including the Buck forum folks).

I think this is a reasonable thing to consider.

Being able to do both would be a killer way to hit the 10 year anniversary (even with the fact I haven’t been around for all 10).

I think it’s a huge celebration. I’d buy both knives, and honestly, I’d probably buy 2 sets so I could give one to my brother or a friend who is getting starting collecting.

Great idea!

I’ve been thinking this all night long.

If this is indeed the last year for the knife I actually really like this idea.

Earmark one of them on layby for next year....OR how's this for an idea?
A six monthly annual trad forum knife ?
Huh ? Huh?...how bout that,?
We could have double the polls a d
Double the arguments....yowwch! who threw that tomato ?

Doing both would be sweet for the 10 year anniversary if it's possible. I know Buck and GEC will do each knife justice but I'm really hoping GEC gets it. A nice sheepsfoot is something I've been wanting recently and it being a forum knife would just make it that much better.

I have a gut feeling the powers that be will not let the two knife proposition fly. Having said that, I would commit to both I'm order to help reach the target production numbers. That way the Buck folks get there neat fixed blade, and we can also have the opportunity to go ahead with the making of an incredibly special pilot run GEC.
