The opportunity to fine tune the 86 could be the finest annual ever. Short rat-tail bolster, bare head, hardwood handle (snakewood, bloodwood) with a simple bar shield.
Something like this? Oh, yes please!!!

That knife would be so classy and traditional. I couldn't pull my money out fast enough!!!

Edit:
Dang it! Now I can't stop thinking about it. This is torture.

Speaking as someone who will be getting his first forum knife, and possibly the last ever offered (I can see why they'd want to shut this down), I'd hope for something unique that represents this community in the way it deserves.

I thought you got one John. What happened?

I want a folder. I have little use for fixed blades and I have enough handmade stuff to keep me going for the rest of my life. I have a Buck 192 that has been seldom used. It's a good hunting knife but I haven't hunted in 5 years. My suggestion is that if you want "Buck" go to a small slippie.

I agree, the 86 could be the best forum knife ever. At 3 7/8" it's getting into jumbo jack territory which has been a fairly hard to find pattern, they were usually 2 blades but I have come across a couple single blades. Couple pics os vintage jumbo jacks next to a regular size, these are 3 7/8" to 4 1/8"

Ebony would look fantastic, could do the same style jigged bone as the Maher & Grosch Yankee whitler.

My plain rubber handle 192 Vanguard rides in my truck, center console, butt up, inches from my shifting hand. It's my all around go-to choice for whatever. The blade and handle lengths mimic the Buck 110 which says a lot for usefulness. The handle shape is one of the most comfortable I own.

The November '18 Buck of the Month from Buck was a Vanguard with average amenities at best and a bloated $175 price tag. I MUST jump at the chance of what we can do here and at an incredible price!

Steven (@skblades) did a fantastic job last year. I love last years knife so much, I carry it every day. So many out of the ordinary details he (and all of us) worked together to make. We can do it again. I say give him another chance this year!

@knifeswapper - Would it be possible to put a Lambsfoot blade on the 86 instead of a Sheepfoot blade? If so, I think that would be really unique.

@waynorth posted in the Guardians thread that GEC is planning to make lambfoot knife sometime this year..... I would love a lambfoot blade on that barehead 86 with double rat tail bolster. That would DEFINITELY be unique. To be completely honest, I have zero interest in a fixed blade.

BTW, Fox makes very high quality knives. I have a couple of their modern iterations.

Here are my Vanguards. I have room for one more.

I would eat glass for a Vanguard in Blue and White Lucite

or Nickle Silver with Ebony

After looking at your photo, I just realized that I actually have the same Buck Vanguard in the top picture, far left. When my dad passed, it became mine. He didn’t use it much and I’ve barely touched it. I certainly don’t mean any disrespect to the Buck lovers here, but it’s just not my cup of joe.

It really is the black sheep of the family, perhaps the most forgotten Buck fixed blade. But I look at it like the pack of stick matches. You keep it, you store it in the cabinet, you use it when there is no lighter fluid or when you don't want to burn the hair off you arm lighting the grill. :D

I like your analogy, but I would hate to feel that way about a forum knife!
