I absolutely love the look of the acrylic covers but, I hate the way they feel. If I am remembering correctly if they are the looking glass kind, dont they get hazy from pocket wear and lose depth?

I love bone but have gone away from it as well. I have had to many crack on pins or from dropping. I am getting to the point of all wood, atleast in a work knife. Just my opinion

Very good point, I've had plenty of pin cracks on bone knives even without banging them or dropping them. What's odd is that Queen and CASE knives, no cracks. Rough Rider and GEC quite a few examples....:(

Acrylic feels slippery yes, wear isn't a problem-but I never carry a knife with keys change etc. Scratches buff off with ease using a strop. I like acrylic but it depends on the pattern and the material itself. Barehead knives are a favourite of mine but I don't think they are suited to acrylic. And with this Chopper blade you all want....it could look very odd indeed, that's why you should go the exhibit route and plonk for MOT:D

Smooth Bone Appaloosa type could be effective, Primitive Bone is excellent but I think the supply is exhausted, Horn is troublesome stuff very often-warp,shrink unless you use properly seasoned Mufflon or Ram's Horn from Europe and that's going to cost:eek: Woods do offer a lot of options, think of Zebra-Queen used that some years back and it's really something for stripes. Maple Burl has a lot of character and eyes, that ought to suit a Barehead pattern(if chosen) Osage is tough, cheap and attractive. Lots to consider:thumbsup:

I know I'll get shot down, but Red Linen Micarta would suit it absolutely or some Burlap type  But the nay sayers will say nay:D There'll be some bickering over the scales, and rightly, it's the make or break:rolleyes:;)

I like the sound of African blackwood, better than ebony.
Jobillo for the win.
Or Rosewood, the quintessential. I would have a companion to these two. (I wish the limecutter could actually cut things).

Yeah, GEC does decent rosewood.IMG_7782-1024x871.JPG

Beautiful wood.
I think it has been stated that Cocobolo and Rosewood have been added to the CITES list, thereby restricting their use.
I would love to see African Blackwood or Ironwood.
If that’s the case we should only go with something that is available to the largest number of our members, including those that reside outside the U.S.

Oddly enough, I have the same experience. No cracks on Queen or Case knives. A few on my GEC's.

I'm in total agreement with a preference towards jigged bone. I too love the more random jigging that the rope knives, and some of the older knives had.

This might end up too big of a run for them to be able to do such jigging within our price range.

That being said, I'm not a hater of most materials. I'd probably rather not have any of the standard micartas though.

Seems like some are looking for a natural material...that won't crack around the pins...that is good for a barehead design (I assume that this means it can handle a drop on the un-bolstered side without cracking). Sounds like Osage Orange because of its relatively high Janka hardness, it's very high modulus of elasticity, and its low rate of shrinkage. Of course, it darkens and dulls over time. Sounds like they better reopen the unobtainium mines!

I voted for the Buck. I would love to see how creative the porch could get with customizing one of those! That said, I think I could live with the GEC. :)

They haven't used it in awhile, but I'd LOVE to see Oil Sucker Rod handles. Shouldn't be too hard to find more around here (in NW PA). I think my folks have a hand rail in the basement that was a sucker rod....maybe they won't notice it missing...

I would think that the new poll will be for handle materials. The moderators will most certainly, with the assent of GEC offer jigged bone, wood, and perhaps acrylic. The jigged bone option which is the most traditional and expensive could be just about anything. The wood options would probably include a black and some cheaper wood such as osage orange. Acrylic options who knows. The 2017 choice of micarta repeating is really a long shot.

I think that for a rugged work knife the best choice would be osage orange. It is cheap and attractive. Coincidentally, it would closely mimic the Case 11031 which is iconic.

I want to see Sabercat take some furniture from his parents house. I'm voting for that.

I hope the first cover material polls are general (wood, bone, acrylic, micarta)
Then we can get more specific with the winning material... with choices of bone color/jigging, or type of wood, etc.

Just a thought. Nothing more. But with virtually no chance, the Fox option continues to slowly climb. Why?
